Do you do it every ride? Every week? How much lube do you use?

I think I use too much...cuz my chain and sprocket r starting to get rust on them. Is that gonna be a problem?

 

I would say you arent doin it often enuff if your **** is rusting

 

yeah i lube mine like every other day with that pj 1 sticky *** lube stuff, but my chain never sees water... but yeah

i would say every 300 miles or so! i use motul chain lube one it's clear so if it flings which is doesn't it does not make you wheel all black and sticky i use PJ1 because it got good rating but after cleaning up the wheels for days. I switched back to motul chain lube. I hope that helps. If you have a higher end chain with o-rings then 300-500 miles is cool.

How do you guys clean your chain? I need to clean mine next time before I put the lube on it. Anyone take their chain off to clean it or just leave it on? Thanks.

 

For cleaning Leave it on the bike, use this product by Honda I think it's a brake parts cleaner,,,,I'll check at home what the can sais. But it's an O-ring safe cleaner and Honda actually recomends it for chain cleaning, It's nice for removing all the built up lube and makes the chain look sweet until you ride it...I only clean mine about once a month (yes I am a high mile rider)
For chain lube, I have been really impressed by "Chain Wax" it tends to last a bit longer than the others and it lasts longer in the rain too. I useually lube my chain about once a week if I ride every day. Or right away if I got caught in the rain.
Another trick if you don't know already is lube the chain right after a ride and when you are planning on staying off the bike for at least a couple hours, the theory is that the lube gets into the seals better when the chain is warm. Why let it sit,,,well, that gives that stuff all the time in the world to soak in. i have ridden before right after i lubed the chain and it tends to make more of a mess.

My manual says to lube it every 600 miles, but I try to do at the very least every 3 or the day after it rains if I'm caught in the rain. Also, I always just take a paper towel and wipe all the old wax off the sides of the links, just to keep it shiny and stuff.

 

I use "Chain Wax" as well for lubing the chain. But for cleaning it, I just use "Simple Green".

No, WD-40 is not "good enough" you need an actual chain lube. I use Bel-Ray super clean spray on chain lube and it seems to work well the only problem I have is that I don't have a swingarm stand so it makes it increadibly difficult to clean and lube the chain .

I usually clean and lube it every 1-2 weeks. I figure as long as I'm taking the time to lubricate it I might as well clean it off first since it's such a bitch anyway.

 

He said "to clean" not lube it. I clean my chain with WD 40 then lube it. I do it after I have ridden a few miles first. I always did it this way and got over 30,000 miles out of the chain on my TL1000R. You know those things are known to eat chains.

 

I have no rear stand either, I have my bro walk behind me as I roll at about 4 mph and he has to spray on the WD-40 to clean it, then the wax. LOL, he's my bitch.

 

Never. I use DID X ring, and I get about 2 years out of em.

Hey that's a good idea I'm gonna have my dad ride the front brake going down the hill on my street. I'll spray the wd40 on first, wipe it down with a towel, then spray on the lube.
