929 riders: gearing?

Time to replace the ol' chain and sprockets... I want some more low end and I was thinking of -1, +2 with a 520. Anyone have a similar set up? Does it change things a lot? I have been doing second gear standups but I want to start bringn them up at lower speeds but I also want to have a decent top end speed. I don't know jack about gearing so a little help please.

Stick with the 530 chain..it's stronger. You won't notice the weight change to a 520 and I'm thinking there are more 530 sprockets readily available in different sizes.

Re: 929 riders: gearing?

I have the same set up -1 +2, and I really enjoy it. Gear ratio of 3. It is good for all around slow and fast wheelies. It only throws the speedo off a little. Going 60 the speedo it will actually be 67.2, 70=78.4, just times whatever speed you want to know by 1.12 to show the real speed your going. As far as 520 or 530 go with which ever is cheaper, you wont be able to tell the difference. my

i agree, the 520 chain is alittle weaker, 530 is the best size for hard clucthing, 530's are easier to find also... i went -1/21 up love it for parking lot, but on my daily bike i run stock gears, alittle harder to get up, but still possible. -1/2 up should be perfect for street.

Re: 929 riders: gearing?

-1 in front is basicly going up two in the rear. the reason people get -1 front and +2 rear insted of just +4 rear is to run as less chain as possible.. and i believe 525 chain is plenty strong enough 520's are weak
