Power commander

I am getting a power commander for 2003 gsxr 1000 and wanted to know how this will help with the throttle. It is real choppy in first.

Re: Power commander

Dude you might want to try a TRE first before you spend $300 on a power commander. It smooths out the throttle, makes the bike think it's in 5th gear all the time. Do you have any other mods like a K&N or exhaust that a power commander would help? Check this thread out:

Re: Power commander

I put on an Akropovic bolt on, so it seesm like it is running a little rich, that is why I got the PC, but I was hoping that it would also help with the choppy feeling in first. Thanks for the advice, I iwll look into the TRE, what exactly does this do?

Re: Power commander

Not 100% sure about the G-Pack but I think so, all these types of things are, are resistors. That is by Niko racing right? Plugs inline on the left side of the bike under the gas tank?

Re: Power commander

Found it, yeah it looks like the same thing. I know a lot of guys run the JSD or Ivan's TRE.

Well... how does your throttle feel now? If its already smooth then no... If its hesitant or a little choppy then a custom map would be nice. Some people I know can put custom maps on your factory ECU without wasting $300 on a power commander (found that sh-t out $320 too late. )

But a PC rarely hurts... especially if you have it dynoed and mapped.

Re: Power commander

I was not sure if I needed it because of the slip on, but it seems to be burning a bit richer( i am going from smell of the exhaust). IT started happening when I put he pipe on. Will the power commandr help with this?

Yeah... it'll help. Depending on your set up... (what pipe, air filter, etc...) the software may already have a map you can download that'll solve your problem. Check Ebay... get a used one... try it out... If you aren't satisfied you can always sell it off again.

When I installed my Yosh slip on it was a little choppy in the first 10% of throttle... I threw a PC on there and it smoothed it right out.

Re: Power commander

Cool, thanks for the knowledge. I will be putting it on tomorrow and I will let everyone know how it worked. I got it for 250 so it it is a little cheaper.

Re: Power commander

Can I down load from the map and put it on a lap top or do I need to have the lap top hooked up to the Internet?

You mean when you're uploading the map? Nah...

Most of them will come with your software. They have most bike/mod combinations already loaded... Not as good as a custom map but they work quite well... You won't have to hook up to the internet at all... unless you can't find your set up then you may have to go to their website and download it...

Re: Power commander

Nice will do, hopefully it will smooth it out. I might have to look at the TRE, cuz that thing is a beast staring out in first, real choppy.

Re: Power commander

I was wondering also if the power commander would help me out? I have an '03 gixxer 600 with a slip on Yoshi and K&N air filter. Ever since I put those on I have noticed a lot of backfiring. Is this normal? If not is it a big problem?

Re: Power commander

Yeah that backfiring probably means your running rich, a power commander would definitely help you...and a map is probably easy to find for that setup...
