900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

I came down from doing a 1/2 mile wheelie and now the bike sounds like a V twin. The power delivery is fine, and it sounds fine at idle, but it backfires like crazy and sounds like a V Twin when I am steady on the gas. When I accelerate it sounds normal. Any ideas what this could be?

Did you come down harder than usual?

I would check where your exhaust meets the engine (header), also I would check the spark plugs.

Re: 900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

Problem solved. When I came down the landing jarred one of the connections to the plugs loose. So I changed the plugs while I was in there and everything works great now.

Ok..problem NOT SOLVED. I thought it was a connection or the plugs but I changed the plugs and all the wires are snug. Some said it could be the carbs, does this sound right?

Wow and all this time I thought 900RR had inline fours in them. When did they start putting V4's in them?

Re: 900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

The only time my 900 ran like **** after putting a long wheelie down it started runniing like ****, missing and backfiring. I had hit rev limmiter right at the end of a 2 mile standup and it blew oil back up in the airbox I thought I blew the ***** up. any way I cleaned out the airbox a she was good to go, but if U already chaged the plugs U had to take the airbox off so U should have noticed oil in it U might neeed to ck it out. I was running a quart over now I run Half a Qt over havnt had it happen in a while

Re: 900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

Went down to the shop today and my buddy told me that it's the carbs most likely after he was done listening to it. When I clean them out I'll let you know the results.

Maybe there is a leak in your exhaust somewhere.
Check this too.

Re: 900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

Finally got around to cleaning the carbs. All I did was open up the floats, spray some cleaner in and wipe them out. She started right up and runs without any problems now. :YEAH

Re: 900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

when i spun a bearing it sounded like a vtwin also, but it was just fine rod knock... that sound sucks, it scares me. i wonder if vtwin owners are like "i was riding a wheelie on my TLR and i came down hard and the **** sounded like a inline 4" lol n/m

Re: 900RR sounds like a V Twin?!?!

i tightened 2 slightly loose intake runners and sprayed a shitload of carb cleaner in the carbs.. it runs a lil better now.. it ran at 1500 rpm.. did a wheelie and started running at 1100 rpm and sounded like a vtwin... cleaned the carbs a bit but not the float bowls and now its running at about 1400 rpm.. i still get the popping noise on deceleration so i think maybe a carb adjustment.. i give up hehe
