Stand ups
Stand ups
I just learned to do regular sit downs for about 50-150 ft (always different). I want to learn standups but had a couple questions.
1) do it start standing up or sitting down?
2) am i on the ***** of my feet cause if so its hard to cover the rear brake
3) are my knees suppose to be locked out or slightly bent?
4) good speed/gear to bring it up on a 1000rr? (without clutching it)
thanks in advance

Re: Stand ups
i rode my friends gsxr 1000. and its crazy fast so if thats what you have i'd prefer 2nd or even 3rd gear for stand up's
1. you start by standing up
2. roll at a steady speed of about 10 -15 mph
3. with you footpegs at about the center of your shoes
4. roll on the trottle to get it up. (you shouldn't need to cluth it up)
5. once you get it up and to a good height you will be able to balance and use less accleration. by doing that you can ride your wheelies longer.
6. once you get used to the right height you'll find that its easier to lean your weight back than to hover over the tank.
7. when you come down from this you need to accelerate for a soft set down. just like sit down wheelies.
you'll come to find that stand up's are much easier than sit downs
hope this helps you out. let me know. (be careful)

Re: Stand ups
dont listen to that ^^ nonsense... well most of it is ok... BUT USE YOUR DAMN CLUTCH! its so much smoother and more predictable, not to mention it will alow you to slow your wheelies down tremendously
Re: Stand ups
I started sit-downs and stand-ups the same day and I'm rocking them just about the same. I can get stand-ups higher but I always seem to come down w/ my wheel tilted a little so I think I'm pullin on my left hand. I'm not good at either a sit-down or stand-up yet so don't rely on me to have good info.
Re: Stand ups
Best vid I've seen (prolly because its a GIXXER too)

Okay got it. On the landing, can I still be standing or should I sit down?
Re: Stand ups

Do you get a wobble in the front wheel when you come down?
Have you ever crashed your bike before?
it may not be your hand, sometimes your steering might be off and it causes a wobble when you come down. check it out because at high speed wheelies you can tank slap and really get hurt man. it just happened to my friends 900rr. i think a blown fork seal can make a difference to. check it out.[/COLOR]
Re: Stand ups
If you watch that gixxer in the video... at one point it starts wobbling pretty bad. I have the exact same problem. What the hell am I doing wrong? I set one down the other day with this wobble going on and just about shat myself after going into a tankslapper.
I have a stock geared gxr 1000. I was bouncing them up in 3rd with both feet on the front pegs. Thanks for any help.

Re: Stand ups
it wobbles from side to side (in the rear) because you are adjusting your weight from side to side too quickly even if its a slight movement...the wobble in the front is because your front end comes down crooked or your tire stopped moving and its catching back up to the speed of the bike are 2 reasons of that

The bike actually starts the wobble in the air before i set it down. I assume this means I may be shifting my weight around too much? A friend of mine with the same bike said he got this too, but brought it up higher and it went away.
