Set up for 954 brakes (endos)
Set up for 954 brakes (endos)
I've been trying to practice rolling longer endo's for a bit. I had decent "beginner" distance before, but the bike's *** would pull right at times. The brakes got mushy pretty quick (after about 30 minutes of practicing).I would bleed the brakes all the time (at which I always found air), but even after bleeding, the same would happen all over again. I switched the stock lines out for steelbraided ones and flushed out the old brake fluid and put in some Motul RBF 600 (higher boiling point). The brakes feel better (no pulling to the right), but now the brake lever positioning is what I'm trying to mess with. I usually put it at 3, at which I'm getting the height, but the bite is coming off late and the back comes up slower than I want. I'm not getting the distance that I want (nor what I use to get more consistantly). Also at 3, when I try at more than 50mph, the brakes feel way too mushy, and they feel like they are barely grabbing (like brake fade). Not preditable at all when I'm going at that speed. When I switch it up to 2, the brake lever feels more responsive, but for some reason it won't pick up the height that I want. The lever feels harder, but the brakes don't grab as good as position 3. And sometimes when I try them at 50mph, my brakes start to chatter.
So, what number do you guys have your levers at? Also, should I bleed my brakes again??? The time I put in the lines was the last time I bled them. Don't know the tricks when it comes to putting new lines. Just want to get my brakes troublefree so I can practice w/o having to always mess with the lever or bleed my brakes 24/7. Thanks

Re: Set up for 954 brakes (endos)
Hey,
I have mine set at position 4 I think,,,second to the last. As far as fade goes try this.
bleed once, if you are still having a problem fluch the fluid completely and start over,,,that useually does the trick. (That used to work really well with my Buell).
Also, remember that these brakes are really powerful so when your bleeding them just feather the lever don't pull it all the way.
If all else fails lockhart makes a quick bleeder (never tried it but I heard it works well) it's just a simple replacment nipple.
I have never had a problem with mine, in fact I swear by my brakes. I've bled them once when I changed the pads and added fluid, and never had a prob.
Careful with that dot 4 it will eat paint and plastic.
Good luck
