Stearing Dampners & Wrecks
Last fall I put on a Scott's Stabilizer and it absolutely transformed my R1!
Well this February when it was still 45 degrees out I lost my back end turning on to a road and had a light drop. My frame sliders took the brunt of the scrape, but my brake lever broke off. I replaced that and I've been noticing vibration at high speeds and it seems my Scott's doesn't start working until I turn it way up (like the last 1/2 turn).
So my question is this. How much does a wreck affect a stabilizer, and if so, is there something I can do to fix this. Maybe this is all in my mind because I didn't get the chance to ride with it much last fall after I put it on. Thanks guys!

Can forks get screwed up in low speed falls?

you answered your problem right there, it's the tire. take the stabilizer off and ride it, fix the wobble, then put the stabilizer back on. a stabilizer is for safety, it's not made to fix the problem with why your bike is wobbling. that's a misconception people have "my bike is wobbling, put a damper on it and it'll stop". well, you didn't fix the problem. i would try a new front tire, that's probably what needs to be fixed, that or a wheel weight came off.

There are two issues here.
1. A wobble
2. A (maybe) blown out Scotts stabilizer
Obviously the wobble can't come from a stabilizer but the stabilizer may have blown a seal. Send it back to Scotts or get one of their kits.
Also eliminate the stabilizer out of the "wobble" equation so you know for sure! But you never asked if the stabilizer had to do with the wobble, did you?
Good luck

another possibility.
If it was a low speed fall....chances are you didnt bend a fork.....especially if you didnt hit anything. However, the forks can shift a bit in the triple clamp. What I would do is jack thefront end up, loosen the triples and then re-tighten them. Worth a try!!!

Well said

Thanks guys. This post got a little off topic because I probably didn't explain myself good enough. I was mostly wondering about how much falls affect stearing dampners and forks. I think my vibration is from the forks being a little off in the triple clamps. I tried to mess with them, but I am mechanically challenged
I have an appointment with the local Yamaha service man soon

no no, i wasn't hating on him, i was merely stating what happens a lot. Guys try to fix a wobble with a steering damper when actually you should fix the wobble separately and to remove the damper, fix the wobble, then put the damper back on after it's fixed. i come off strong because i don't beat around the bush, but i wasn't saying that was what he did.
i still vote for the tire since he said it has uneven wear, or maybe the fall caused a wheel weight to come loose and then it came off. and yes, if a scotts has something wrong with it, it leaks like a **** so you'll definately know.
