Gearing & Sprockets?

I have a 02 f4i red/black and I am hearing people talking about changing their gearing or sprockets to -1/+3, now am I looking for a sprocket or a gear, im confused here and how will this effect my bikes performance? Also I hear about tire pressure for wheelies, what should my front and back be in psi? damn sorry for all the questions lol thanks...

Re: Gearing & Sprockets?

Changing your gearing will improve your low end and make it easier to wheelie. The lower tire pressure will help the tire hook up better and will make it a little more stable in a wheelie

thanks KC but can u give me the pressure that will be good in my tires, and when people say -1/+3 thats only 1 less tooth in the front and 3 more for the rear?

Pressure depends on what you are gonna do with the bike. If its just a parkin lot bike you can run pressure down into the single digits, if you ride it everyday I would say 18-20. And yes they are referind to one less in front and three more in the rear

You may want to run a little more in the front (25psi is good for stoppies) You can dent your front rim if you come down hard from a wheelie if the pressure is too low.

Re: Gearing & Sprockets?

I'm runnin' 28 in the front and 18 in the rear. Works great for slow stuff and everyday riding but I wouldn't run in the canyons like that.

-2 just in the front is good for wheelies and stunts what about the back?

my back is stock now but i plan to buy a +8 w/ 520 chain for the back and buy a stock size front sprocket for 520 when i get the money....... i was poor so thats all i could buy for now but im lovin the -2 w/ 525 chain. just to give u a idea u can power 2nd gear sitdowns on these sprockets..... for some reason it just seemed more torque than my gsxr setup which was -1 +3 520 chain.

Re: Gearing & Sprockets?

how do sprocket changings effect speed, see i want to perfect all kinds of wheelies but i also want my bike to have the ***** it does not, since i am only 5'7 @ 165lbs (getting bigger tho) i can haul ***...i still want the wheelies but i still want the speed would that be possible with a set up like this -1/+3?
