Stoppies on an R6

Watz up guys and gals, I have an 02 R6 and I am just getting into stunting. I have tried doing stoppies and I just cant get the rear in the air. I thought maybe it was the dunlop tires I had on so I have a set of Pirelli Diablos waiting to go on. I tried leaning forward and slamming the front brake at like 40 and a couple of times the tire just locked up and I almost bit it hard, thats why I thought it might be the tires. I also thought that it might be my suspension settings because my cous had the bike before me and it was set up for track days and I never changed it. What are the right suspension settings for the front and rear on the 02 R6? If somebody could give me some pointers I would appreciate it.
thanks
Sean

dont be pulling stoppies in a parking lot cause there tends to be a lot of loose sand and gravel which will make you slide try on a dead end road or some thing get it to about 20 mph for begginers and pull the front brake and lean fowar you should be fine just keep trying

Re: Stoppies on an R6

well first off make sure your tire is warm if its not alot of times it will lock up and slide. Try starting at 30 mph start pulling in your front brake and let the suspension compress down lean forward alittle and pull in the brake alittle more untill you feel the tire lift off the ground by the time you finally do get it off the ground ur only going like 5 mph, after you get used to getting it in the air practice gettin that tire up to the bp alot faster meaning you roll alot farther by the way it helps me to lock my arms so the back wont kick out and take baby steps you dont want to fock yourself up

Re: Stoppies on an R6

yeah, the key word is let the front forks compress first, then brake harder to lift the rear

It's sure hard to do with those steenkin' Dunlops anyway. You can much more consistently get enough grip to stoppie once you get those Pirelli Diablos on there.

in at all times that is how I learned it stoppies are farely easy once you learn your technique I like mine to be one smooth move just ease on the brake at about forty and bring it nice and high because it is easier to control with your arms locked and the main thing is to not look directly down at the pavement look 100 yards away feel the bike coming up by your equalibrium in other words the thing that allows you to balance also stay consistent with your speed and pick a certain spot like a tree by the side of the road that when you go buy it pull it up at that spot every time while your head is focused straight down the road. just my sorry it was a little of topic to your reply. by the way if your bike is in gear when you hit it probably is not that good for it.

hey PM me sometime. I live in Emmaus and you can come ride with us sometime. I ride and 02 R6 around. I can try to show you what you are doin wrong. Believe it or not Big dave from the star boyz help me with the hole thing. If you put to marks on a road (like rocks or what not) about 25 feet from each other, try to stop using only your front brake. Go slow first then just pick up speed. Do this but do it slow. Don't just think your the man and go grabin a hand full of brake. Good luck
