Re: 520 chain?

There is not really much diff strength between the two
520 Xring DiD 8,120 tensile strength in LBS
530 DID 9,270

I wouldn't do the coverson just for stunting the reason U would do the converson is for road racing the 520 chain is smaller = less rotating weight thats the only reason.
The only reason for the conversoin for stunting is sprocket specialists will make up to a 74 rear tooth and in 530 71 rear plus the 520 chain is cheaper and the sprockets are also 7 to 10$ cheaper. When U buy chain they will be rated 600or 750 to 1000 and some chains are rated to 1300

Maybe this will help

I run a 520 chain never had a problem
the only problem I ever had was I bought this cheap as non oring chain and I snaped it. LONG STORY SHORT BUY O-RING CHAINS = NO PROBLEMS

Re: 520 chain?

yah, it will brake easier, but the staple advantage of a 520 conversion :

accelerates faster, basically less rotating mass = faster acceleration

Re: 520 chain?

If your going to be running a big gear ,like 15 up or something 520 is fine and cheaper. The more gear you have in the bike the less strain it puts on the chain. Friend of mine has a 520 on his 929 with a 15+.

Re: 520 chain?

breaks as in snapping ? or breaks as in stopping ?

my friend races AMA superbike on a gsxr1k that makes 180HP+ at the wheel that uses 520 chain and never had one break on him.. I've never had a 520 break on me.. only way I could see one 'breaking' is if it was not installed properly, with clip-style master link or just not maitnenced ever.. even then...

First off your zx6 probably has 525 chain on it unless someone changed it before. I think 520 chain would be fine, but I'm not riding it so get what ever your comfortable with. And 530 chain is not cheaper, the chain cost more and the sprockets cost more not to mention its way overkil for a zx6.

I'm just guessing here but they probably use a high dollar chain for 1 race and trash it, they also use a 520 chain because its less rotataing mass.

And breaks as in stopping is spelled BRAKES, seems no one can spell it right

Re: 520 chain?

If your only on a 6hun you can probly get away with a 520 but if your on a big bike keep the 530.
