What gearing????

I have a 02 zx6r and I want to screw with the gearing. I ride this bike a lot on the freeways and stuff so I dont want to take away too much on the topend. I want to be able to easily pull it up in the lower gears though. What gearing suggestions do u have that will give me the lower gear ratio that I am lookin for without losing too much top end?

Re: What gearing????

You don't need a faster bike!! Just work on bouncing it up and before long you will be bouncing up 3rd w/ no clutch! Just keep practicing.

Alright I guess I need to restate the question. I am a pretty descent rider...I can wheelie about anything. I am lookin for some deeper gears so it pulls up very easily (I realize that it is gravy now but I want even more) and so I can ride slower in a higher rpm range. I dont want to lose to much top end though. FLEXXX

Thanks man, that is the kinda answer I am lookin for. I think that might be to deep though. Cause if I am cruisin 85mph on a bike that will now only do say 110mph She is winding out pretty good. like 7500rpm id say...

Re: What gearing????

nah, with that set up, bike should still top out at 130... Talk to Twist~ROC, he has that set up... I have -1+5 right now, but I never try to get into triple digit speeds so I couldnt tell you my top speed. Soon I'll be switching over to a -2 set up... You can also try -2+2 or 3 and still might be able to use the stock chain.. And still have a nice amount of top speed...

Re: What gearing????

I think you have an issue with whant you want to do with this bike. Don't be scared to let that clutch fly. If you want to be a stunter there's going to be some real changes that happen. Our bikes are picked up of the street every time we go out to practice (a stunters bike will never stay pretty). They are not worth a spit to ride as a means of transportation, the gearing is totally jacked and the suspension is real hammered. If all your looking to do is some rear stands then add 2 or 3 teeth to the rear and a whole bunch of clutch. Don't worry about the higher RPMs, that motor can handle plenty of abuse..jk

Re: What gearing????

Well see I have a bike lined up that I will use this year just for stuntin but I still like to take my zxr to my lake house and chit, that fact is even though I dont say my zxr is my stunt bike I cant help myself but to screw around on it when I ride it. I am not lookin to stunt it I just want it geared down just abit.

Re: What gearing????

One thing I forgot to mention is that I want to stick with a stock chain. What combos will still work with the stock chain, -1+5?

I doubt that would work. Try -2 +3 or 4 if you want to keep the stock chain.

What he said. I just recently went -1+4 and I was short by like 1 link but you should still change the chain when you change sprockets.

If you go -2+3 you should get the added power your looking for on the bottom end. Plus run the stock pipe or cut your stock pipe.

I can do 12s with it the way it is, I am just lookin to be able to do it a bit slower in a little bit higher rpm range so they are more smooth. I dont want to lose a hole lot on top end. I am thinkin, after reasearching and input from this thread, that I may go with -2+2 or 3

Re: What gearing????

I'm not sure who you see but the majority of all the stunnas I've seen is running stock or cut your stock and run it mini. (thats what I got) You can still stunt with aftermarket don't get me wrong you just lose some of the that bottom end snap.
