For beginners, I would say learn it w/ your stock gearing....
There are alot of people locally that ask me all the time if they should gear their bike to learn 12's.... I say no.
Learn it stock, then later on get gears if you want...

learned with stock gearing but now rock +4 in the rear on a RR rocking stock is nice cause you can pretty much jump on Squids zx-6 and 12 his **** and hes like " how are you doing that on my bike?''

i did it stock just recently, 3 times, and dropped it, now im -1/+5 and i can get it up quick and slower, but this damn snow around here is killing my trying, so i am gonna have to start from scratch after the winter

I am learning twelves right now and i tried it stock first then i geared it -1 , +10 and it is so much easier to twelve cause it comes up faster and has more engine brake so if i mess up. i say gear it to the hilt.
