go to archieves, then "tweak's 12 bar" near the bottom of the page.

pictures and details. very simple design and hasn't failed me yet.

i have a 94 900rr that i'll be making one for soon, i could start early and give you tips on how it went if you need them. it's pretty simple though, 2 bolts each side, 1/4" steel plate, that's about it.

cool thanks for the info Binder929. I am thinkin of building a 12 bar for my 03 R1 soon just I think I'll do a little sub frame reinforcing while I'm there. What do you think will the sub frame be okay without it or would I be better off reinforcing it while I'm there. Keep in mind I have all the materials to do this at work and I won't be drilling the sub frame whatsoever with my 12 bar installation.

there isnt a problem with drilling the subframe as long as you stuff it first, (thanks to JackassRR) i have a gsxr not an r1, and my subframe is 3/4" hollow square tubing, i went to lowes and bought some aluminum strips, and forced about 4 in a row on each side, then when you drill through, and bolt it on, it is a solid piece (well almost solid) so it wont collapse, what jackassRR said to do was to get a solid tube .625" and mill the corners a little and it will slide right it, then just weld up the end and it is stay put!!!

ya, you need to drill.

i drilled 2 3/8" holes in each side for mine and bolted it with grade 8 bolts. haven't had a single problem yet and i'm pretty rough on it. I've crashed some hard 12's and even flipped a crazy fast stopped and watched the bike go end over end and it didn't break my bar off or mess up my subframe.

just make sure you center the holes. putting something inside it doesn't sound like a bad idea but wiht 929's you can't because they have a crazy bend in them at the end.

i didn't reinforce my sub frame, but it's also a honda 929, i think one of the more stong subframes. bolts on 3 places, pretty stout. on r1's i think they are alittle weak so if you can aluminum weld some bracing, i'd go for it.

oh yea and please muffler clamp that bitch cause drilling holes loses strength and i dont think you wanna be the filling in a 400lb taco when the sub snaps

i've saw muffler clamps break time and time again.

i've never had ap roblem with my drilled subframe, that's how all my team mates are and nobody has had a problem yet. i even flipped my bike end over end at 80 and the subframe bent, didn't even bother the bolts. also, tha'ts how freestyle bars are hooked up, if there is a problem with it i don't think they would tell everyone to do it.

3/8 holes are little overkill plus it weakens the subframe, i used 1/4 bolts in mine and we used 1/4 in all my friends bars too. Clamping seems to be a better idea though.

fill your current subframe with alluminum, so its solid.

I could only fit one roll of foil in it. Is that enough?

that's cause gixxer frmaes are small, on my 929, 3/8" left plenty of room on both sides, it wasn't taking up much of the subframe. like i said, ti's been flipped at 80mph and hasn't had a problem yet and neither have any elses bikes i've put bars on.

well whatever works for ya man...i know mines strong as hell....i like the filling the subframe part...only thing is that makes it strong enough to damage the frame itself...double neg. there huh
