keeping wheelie at a constant speed

I was wondering how do you keep a wheelie at a constant speed like 60-70mph. I hit my BP but i'm still getting on the throttle a lil bit just to keep it up. I stay in 2nd gear and ride it out to redline. I keep it up for awhile, but i would like to stay around 60-70mph instead of accelarating to 90mph. Do I need to switch into 3rd gear. I tried switching gears but it won't stay up. Once I switched gears it either came down or I almost looped it. What is the best way to switch gears.

if your accelerating to 90, and riding the wheelie to redline.....your not at the Balance point. Gotta go a litter higher.

PS- you don't have to switch gears...once you get comfy in the BP you can stay in 2nd all day for miles....

Do you use your body to balance the bike or just the throttle. I don't know if I can go any higher I don't wanna loop it I'll try to get there once the weather gets nicer. IT snowed this morning. I can do sit downs or stand ups which one is easier to stay in the BP. I wanted to switch gears so I don't rev the **** out of my bike when in a wheelie.

speedyredR6, I this problem for the longest time too, plus the BP is pretty high on a R6, just keep doing it and it will click for you one day. Like Rich said, you just gotta go a little higher. I still shift gears too because its hard to keep it right at balance point the whole time, for me its off and then on and I just do that over and over again until I need that next gear.

How do you switch gears and still stay up. Do I need to change sprockets so i'll have enough torque in 3rd gear to keep it up.

When i used to do freeway wheelies i would nounce it up in second and shift to third on the way up...it never fell mostly i think i was doin more lik 80-90mph..at that speed the wind holds the wheelie up a bit. I was only +2 in the back on the rear sprocket too. So ya the way i learned is do it on the way to the balance point before your in it...that way you dont feel like your gonna loop it...then eventually it doesnt matter where your at you can shift. I learned shiftin in sitdowns from 1st to second...same thing....power up in 1st and on way to BP shift to second quick. Just remember cut the throttle really fast when you shift...real quick close throttle shift back on throttle.

well if you shift you have more throttle to play w/ .... if you move yuour wheelie higher in real small increments u can go pretty damn high.......you can even slow down your wheelies by doing this.... and yeah body positioning helps too..... it might help you if you lock your knees and maybe hang off the bike a lil bit..... if you post a picture of yourself wheeling that'll help us help you.
