Tire Changes

who changes thier own tires? Which tools did you purchase and where? I've seen a few bead breakers and balancers on different sites I think i could make my own balancing station no problem it's the braking of the bead that looks a little hairy. Thanks for the info.

I do

I change my own tires... only bought 3 tires levers (20$) and new tires

I use 2 pieces of 2x4 bolted to the wall to break the bed, and 2x4 to balance the wheels... I didn't had a clue how to do it until I found that page http://www.clarity.net/~adam/tire-changing-doc.html there's everything you need to know.

Beads

One way I've broken beads is to lay the wheel on a wide board or something else to pad it from the road, then lay a 2 foot 2x4 on the tire right near the rim with the other end on the ground, and drive up on it with your trusty mini-van. Very portable (if you have the van with you), and easier with a second person to help position the 2x4 as you start to drive up on it.

We just use a shovel to break our beads. Put the shovel in the on the lip and jump on that bitch. Works like a champ!
