Learning Brake Control (newbie wheelies)
Learning Brake Control (newbie wheelies)
How do ya do it then?

Unfortunately you can't really bring it up with the brake lightly on like you can with bigger bikes.
I have a few times tried to force myself to keep my foot hovering over the brake and activly think about it, but as soon as other stuff, like changing gear etc comes into it, I stop concentrating on the brake.
btw... just wondering if there's any special technique for 'hangin on' in 12's etc... I don't intend to be trying any (intentional) ones any time soon, but it'd be usefull to know

. I dont have first hand experiance. But from looking in the video, and getting all the advice I have from peeps on here. You started out right, and you should have got on the brake right after you got it up or close to the BP.
Alot of peeps have been telling me to get on the brake as the bike is coming up. But the thing is you dont want to have full pressure on the brake as if you was stopped. Its kinda like doing a rolling burnout.
Its all about brake/throttle control, and body position. Also some peeps turn the idle up too. But just learn the brake and throttle control before you go for the 12.
I even practice rear brake/throttle control on normal riding.

not trying to hate on ya man but it looks like you panicked and bailed. is this the first time you got this high on a wheelstand? if you had not panicked you would have calmly feathered out the throttle a bit and started to give some friction to the back end
Right, I wasn't trying to get much higher (definitely not trying for a 12
), just trying keep it at around where it was, however most of the time I end up 'hunting' up and down around the balance point, not keeping it on a constant throttle.
I didn't intend to come up that high at the end.. only done that once before and I ended up on the road then as well (though different cirumstances). I didn't intentionally bale... think I just kinda fell off because I'm not used to riding my bike vertically
.
I'm pretty sure I did shut the throttle off then, but because it's a road 2 stroke it doesn't have much engine braking.. I've had a few time before where it's gone too high and just floated there for a sec despite a closed throttle.
The day before I was trying to practice using the brake... but with not much power to play with it usually just brings the front straight down again.

you too huh? i love that...the first time i got vertical was when a girl smiled at me as i slowed down to 1st to let her cross the street. she kept looking so i revved the **** out of it and dumped and that slipped my bike straight up and down. then i shut throttle to let it drop back down a bit but i got stuck up there for like 3 seconds. it was my first time being that high and i didnt know what to do, i really was stuck in mid air. scared the **** out of me. glad i had a helmet on cause she would have known i didnt mean to do that if she sall the look in my eyes

If you dont mind low speed crashing, turn your idle up alot. It will make you learn brake control.

Cheers for the thoughts.
I don't think I gave it much more throttle than any other time... just the littleist bit too much and the lack of engine braking meant that I couldn't get it back down again.
As I said, just working on keeping it at the bp at the moment, but still interested in how people hold on when doing sit-down 12s?... I might have saved it if I'd actually stayed on the bike

. Full face helmets, gotto love'em. They will hide all your facial expressions. Reminds me of my first stoppie atempt; the bike stopped quick alright, and so did I with the gastank parting my *******, everyone loved it
had that happen before! when the tank parts your ******* it isn't just a case of them not seeing your face though! Now you gotta try to stay on the bike when all your natural instinct is saying CURL INTO A LITTLE BALL AND LIE ON THE GROUND!!! I was hugging my gas tank for 2 miles after that one! They knew. They might not have seen my face, but they knew I did something wrong!
