steering damper ?

i was just wondering if i should get a steering damper for my 2003 r1. i have been told i need to but i cant afford it, but i dont want to f**k my bike up. i like riding wheelies but dont want to hold them up long because they say when the front tire stops you have a chance to go into a tank slapper. also i love stoppies and doing them at high speeds does it affect that.

Id especially get one with a r1. it cuts down on a whole lot of front end shake at high speeds. get a scotts there only 404.

Definetly get one. The 300-400$ you spend on a damper will pay for itself the first time you get a good tankslapper. I had a really bad tankslapper throw me right off my bike like a ragdoll at about 80mph. It sucked. And I believe if I had a damper it would have never happened.

Look on Ebay

Youll need one on the r1 theres no way around it.. 400 bucks isnt a lot of money consider you just spend what 8 grand on that r1?

i broke my damper a couple days ago and rode with out it for the first time tonight, let's just say i didn't like it when i went into a slapper coming down from a flamingo, i think i may just park it till i get a new one, or just practice the stuff i got down

i spent a good 6 months stunting my 02 R1 without a damper.. and my 99 never had a damper. if you drop down at 120 or so, you'l get minislappers, but they aren't bad as long as you dont come down with the bars crossed up, or freak out. just lay into the gas a bit if you get a slapper, and hold on.

don't come down with the bars crossed up, and don't come down while turning/leaning.. come down straight as possible.

that said, my damper is the best investment i ever made.. lot easier to stunt the bike with it, stoppies are cake.

watch the forsale section of the r1-forum.com .. you can find good deals there, maybe $300 + shipping for a used one.
