Having trouble getting the front wheel up high.

Question for all the pros. I have a 97 Yamaha YZF 1000. I have done some nice short wheelies, but recently I am having a problem getting the front wheel up even when I let the clutch out at 10K rpm. Could there be a mechanical problem? How can I add more torque?

Also, what's the trick to doing 12 o'clocks? Do you have to red line before letting the clutch go??

Help!!

Ive ridden a 02 R1 and I had troubles gettin em down from that High. compared to my 600, theres no effort envolved in gettin that front tire at a perfect 45 degree angle or higher. It might be somethin mechanical, hows your clutch doin on the bike. gear it to get more torque, i aint know much bout R1s so ask someone who has one. and I hear a wheelie bar, crash cage, and just ripin it for da 12s is the quickest way.

Thanks dude...

My clutch is doing alright (I think)... I messed around with it yesterday and I found out that my bike comes up easier when I bring the clutch in around 5-6 k and let it back out around 9 - 11K.... I am still having problems getting it up for the slow wheelies... even when I rev it up to about 11-12K the bike takes off quick and then the front wheel comes up... from the stories I hear the front wheel should come up easy at around 7-8 k

what composite tire do you use?? My Dunlop is slipping too and I have all kinds of tread left...

If you want to learn 12's, let alot of air out of the back tire (I run 15-20psi) and cover the back brake at all times to slow it down & to keep it from going over. You want the bike to come up real fast! The quicker you get it up, the slower & hopefully longer you can ride it out! I've heared that R1's are real twitchy, so be carefull! Oh yeah, ride with people that can 12, it makes it that much easier!

If you let the clutch out at near redline on your bike.... I'm almost certain you'd loop it... and a great quote I heard is:

"Don't loop, it hurts"

I bet!! LOL!!

The closest I came to looping was when I had a chick on the back... I popped the clutch out and the front wheel just shot straight up in less than a second... I didn't have my foot over the brake cause I didn't expect that ****... luckly I just pulled the clutch back in and it just kinda fell back down straight... the chick just started screaming and slapping me on the back... good times yo!!

I got a 1997 Yamaha YZF 1000R also. The best way I get the front up is in 1st run RPM`s to around 5000 and then grap a sh@t load of throttle. The front end powers up . I just gotta figure out how to ride longer ones.
