Help with cutting exhaust pipe on F4
Hello
I have a 99 CBR 600 F4, and I opened today my old F4 pipe just to see how it looks from the inside, and I cant see how I can make it short enough so it wont hit the ground.
Here is the good pipe on the bike

This is the one I opened

I cut the end cup

and the part I want to remove

I cut mine from the front because its a hollow space. Mine still sounds stock. If you keep those pipes together it will stay quiet. The f4 one may be different though... There are tons of posts on this..
Re: Help with cutting exhaust pipe on F4
this is what I think I can do with this pipe...

Do you think its short enough ?
The cut mark on the photo refer to the cut Ill do with the good exhaust.

Re: Help with cutting exhaust pipe on F4
I saw this post
I can cut it more, he cut 6" I can cut without any problems 8", in the photo Its 7.1 but I can make is a little more.
Alright, here's what you gotta do for a stocker honda... I figured this out the hard way by going through 2 stock pipes b4 getting it right. I like to be as quiet as possible, cause my lot is close to houses.
Those 4 pipes inside are important... if you just cut em and put the cap back on you will have a much louder pipe. I'll attach a pic of when I cut mine. I cut 6" off from the original end cap weld.
Here's the deal... there are 3 chambers inside the pipe. The first is where the inlet comes in... the sound waves bounce around in there, then go through one tube(the bottom one) that bypasses the second chamber and goes to the end where they bounce around some more. Then through the 2 tubes in the center that go back to the second chamber, bouncy bouncy, then it all exits through the top center tube out the end cap.
What you have to do is keep a few inches of the last chamber and seal that last exit pipe from the rest of em. I had my welder slap a plate on the end w/ just one hole for the top tube. Then put the orignal cap back on.
If you take the time to do it this way, it'll stay just about same loudness as stock. Slightly louder at wot. Leave those 4 tubes open and you may as well cut 12" off the pipe.
I'll try to get some better after pics but for now you get the idea...

Ughhhhh no idea Gilad. I'll post a link in the NY thread to see if anyone can offer advice. I usually just cut through the H in the Honda at the back of the can and my pipes are always quiet
Re: Help with cutting exhaust pipe on F4
I love my pipe cut... It took me a while but I went crazy and kept to the OEM design with the chambers still being used as they were from the factory....
My pipe is 12 inches long, Cut 8 inchs off..

Re: Help with cutting exhaust pipe on F4
Just cut the front off. That way, all your stock internals will be left unaltered. Remove the mount, cut the pipe, weld it back, and weld the mount back on.
Re: Help with cutting exhaust pipe on F4
I cut 4 inches on both sides. Then rear of the pipe I Bent the exit pipe so it met back up with the tip.. The front section is hollow but it also baffles the sound alot so 4 inches on both sides worked out perfect..

I cut about 8 inches of the front, its really quiet, almost boring quiet. Requires cutting off and rewelding mount, but your gonna weld anyways so.
