Re: 600 rr running hot

are you running an overflow bottle ?

and for future reference it is better to just put your bike in 6th gear and cruise a little to get the temperature down , when you just shut the bike off the cooling system builds a lot of pressure but cruising around in 6th will get a lot of air across the radiator and cool the bike down quick ....

hard to say with out being there to check it out for you but thermostats are cheap ...might be worth a try ...

is your fan running in the right direction , i know it's a stupid question but i have seen people get them wired wrong before

correct because if it is pushing air and then you move the bike forward the air trying to come in would cancel out the fan

Re: 600 rr running hot

just know that some times removing the thermostat completely can make the bike over heat also ...the reason is that the coolant needs to be restricted so it stays in the radiator long enough to cool a little before it goes back into the motor ...gutting the stock one would be a better idea if you don't want to buy a new one and another reason for having a thermostat is it lets the bike get up to the proper running temperature quicker then not having one or even having a gutted one ...

and not that it really matters here in florida but if it's very cold out not having one will make the bike run cold when your on the streets and that makes it run rich also

Re: 600 rr running hot

This might sound stupid but make sure the cooling system is burped... Let it run with the cap off for a few minutes while squeezing the hoses to get any air pockets filled. I had major overheating issues at the beginning of last year and I burped it over and over untill I couldnt get anymore coolent in. I was so frustrated lol I have no problems now at all.

Re: 600 rr running hot

gutting thermostat helps it cool down quicker but it still creeps up to 250 within 3 to 4 minutes when riding slow with the fan on only thing left is the water pump anyone agree?

it's very rare for a water pump to go bad on a bike , i would be more suspect of the fan not pulling enough air or the radiator being clogged with crap but yes it could be the water pump just not the most likely thing
