Any suggestions on how to get over wheelie fear?

when i clutch my wheelies it comes up so damn fast and so damn high that i get scared and close the throttle not completely but enough to slam the front wheel down as a result my body is thrown off the seat and im standing over the tank. before that i use to just hit my nuts on the tank which was horrible. im fairly light 120 pounds

i have had experience riding it out but most of the time it comes up too high and too fast. but im ALWAYS scared in either case.

I have a 2001 Gsx-r 600. I've been riding for about 3 months this is my first bike.

my method is double pumping the throttle then releasing clutch to an rpm where it feels right. and i usually try to stay around 35 MPH sometimes i find myself doing em at 40.

Any help would be appreciated.

thats not to good of a method ... now that i kno how to do it id say the easiest way to learn .. if u want to clutch it ...
is to get goin to a decent acceleration ... when ur at like 5k
pull in the clutch about half way .... dont let off on the throttle ... then let the clutch just pop out ... if it doesnt come up high enough then just give it a little more gas after u pull the clutch in

hope it helps

you are clutching 1st gear wheelies at 35? dude, just ride the bike for a few more months. You will learn alot about how it handles. I am glad my first bike sucked enough to not wheelie easy. :P If you dont wanna wait, just take baby baby baby steps. That fear goes away after a while. I still remember it. I still get it tryin 12s sometimes. Fear will make you do stupid things. Take it slow and you will be fine. Rush and you will end up on your ***. The only reason I say to log some more miles before stunting is since this is your first bike, you can play with the throttle and find out how your bike reacts to different throttle inputs. Once you get that down and its predictable, throw a little clutch in there and you will be good to go.

DUDE I practiced like crazy yesterday. i burned the **** outta the clutch but i got the hang of it after a while and damn im proud. I was riding out wheelies pretty nice and i dont land hard anymoe im feathiering the throttle so much better some how i manage to give it a quick twist of the throttle right before it comes down so it lands soft

by the way, why is clutching at 35 bad?

Many new riders don't understand how a bike really works before they start stunting. Taking baby steps is key. You have to know how to ride before you can 12o'clock. Don't think stunting is easy, if it were easy every one could do it. Ride. Ride a lot. Put miles on your bike and you will learn about the bike and learning to wheelie is just about practice. The best riders are the best because they ride every day.

Wheelies are strange things

They are honestly..when I first started doing wheelies on a road bike I just stood up in second gear, bounced the front and hay presto, stand up wheelies. Within a month I had it sussed. Used to ride trials when I was a kid and all my wheelies where done standing up. Musta helped.

Sitting down though, man I sucked at that for ages. To paranoid about wrecking my bike I think. One thing I did figure out though, is that more often than not the bike isn't as high up as you think it is. Loose the fear and again, hay presto, bitchin wheelies. Unfortunately though, if you're clutching at high revs and low gears, things can go pear shaped real quick.
