929rr transmission
929rr transmission
got a problem with my transmission well thats what i assume it wont hold second gear but i can down shift and it holds so i heard it can be a few different things from other people.**** i really dnt want throw out 1500 are more anyone got advice on what it can be so i can check before taking it to shop.
Re: 929rr transmission
if the tranny is fucked, its fucked, your best bet is to get another motor.
Can't do ANYTHING to the tranny without pulling the head/pistons/crank and splitting the bottom end.. basically like you said, $1500+ for a shop!
New motor = $600-$1000....
Just ride it, and forget about it, or fork up the cash!
been riding 16k miles on my f4i with no 2nd gear, I just deal with it tell my motor blows

Re: 929rr transmission
Not sure about the Honda's, but the Kawasaki and the Yamaha can be done without removing the head.
For the Kawai's and Yamaha's...
Drop the engine, flip over, remove bottom case (leaving upper case connected to head), then access tranny components.
Finding another transmission can be challenging though.
Plan on $100/gear from the dealer if replacing with factory OEM. Shift forks were around $50 IIRC. Not sure about transmission shafts, bearings, shift drums, etc. Also add in machine shop work if you do not have access to presses and pullers.
Sometimes it is far cheaper to replace with a different motor. Plus you'll have extra parts for the future.
