Rear wheel keeps misaligning (sliding)

Hey guys, this started happening lately. After one day I noticed my chain slack was HUGE (like 2-3 inches). I tightened the big 27mm bolt that holds the rear wheel to the swing arm and pulled the wheel back again (using those alignment bolts). Now, I rode for about 20 minutes and the wheel slid again... so my chain slack increased again. Has anyone had this problem? Am I missing something? What could be tightened to fix this?
Thanks!!

The adjusters might be stripped or are vibrating loose maybe
You are tightening the axle too I hope

I don't think they're stripped because they are pretty tight and they do adjust the wheel. I have tightened the axle as tight as I could get it by hand. Any other ideas???

how big of a wrench are you using on the axle nut?

According to my manual, it should be torqued down to exactly the weight of a full grown man standing on a breaker bar no less than 18 inches long.

the way you typed this up it sounds like you tightend the axle then used the adjusters.. .. I hope thats not the order that you did it..

I noticed that too... was too lazy to fix it, but yes, I did it the opposite way.

Re: Rear wheel keeps misaligning (sliding)

adjust chain so that there's about an inch of slack (check ur manual for specifics) on lower chain run when sitting on bike. Check this in a number of spots cause chains stretch unevenly. go for a ride and see if it's still a problem.

Re: Rear wheel keeps misaligning (sliding)

Yeah the chain is brand new and all the wheel spacers are in (I did all the work myself). I guess the only thing could be is that I didn't tighten it all the way and it got loose. Yesterday I alligned everything up again and tightened it as hard as I could. If it moves again then I have a problem... but hopefully that is it. Too bad I won't find out till next season... I hate CT!!
