zx7 smokin like a train

so heres the deal...saturday filled it up wit 93(duh)...rode fine...sunday started to run kinda like a damn 4 wheeler up until it reved to 4k(sounded like a 4 wheeler) jus figured it was prob bad plugs even tho i jus changed em like 2 weeks ago...well i woke up this mornin(monday), started it to warm it and it was backfiring? a good decent amount...well wen i reved it, it cleaned up but white smoke was pourin out tha exhaust!?!?!? my first thoughts were either bad rings or head gasket...i pulled tha plugs and there not too burnt or soaked with oil,,,drained tha oil and theres no antifreeze/oil mixture and tha oil doesnt smell lilke gas either?!?! im lost....only thing i could think is tht tha oil level was too high and it was bein sucked back thru a breather line and dumped on tha carbs/plugs...causin it to smoke>?!?!?!?! is this poss?

Any ideas? need help badddddd

Re: zx7 smokin like a train

Gonna seam like a strange question, but what does the smoke smell like?

Whitish blue to blue smoke is usually oil and smells like burnt oil.
Blue smoke is primarily from internal engine wear. This could come from worn rings, bad valve seals leaking while the bike sits, etc.

Straight white smoke usually indicates antifreeze leaking and has a kinda sweet smell to it.
Coolant burn off can indicate a leaking or blown head gasket, cracked head, etc.

I would probably do a compression test before I rode the bike any more. If it is a head gasket, it will only get worse and hopefully no real damage has been done yet.

Hope that helped some.

Yes. You probably over filled it (if you recently filled it??), happens to everybody atleast once. You should only need to over fill it 3/4-1quart. What year bike is this?

Re: zx7 smokin like a train

Like it was previously mentioned, if you were not experiencing any problems before, than the oil probably just was overfilled.

Since you said the smoke is getting thinner, the excess oil is just burning off. You most likely will notice the smoke stopping (or really faint) at idle, and only reappearing during hard acceleration or when strong demands are placed on the engine.

Double check your oil level and keep an eye on everything while the rest burns off. If it continues to smoke at a consistent rate, or only after the bike has been sitting, then you might have an additional problem.

Well since this started before you changed the oil then maybe not. Best bet is to get a manual and start diagnosing. Get a manual and start diagnosing.

Good catch, I missed that.

I was under the impression it started AFTER the oil was changed.

Definite problem then.
