Re: f4i rattle ?

Bummer.

Any chance of a quick video or something similar? Gonna be a toughie to diagnose without any information.

Any history on the bike?
Anything you have done recently?
Conditions when the problem occurs?
What did the dealer diagnose?

Not trying to be rude or mean, but you need to give more information in order to get educated guesses as to what the problem might be.

Re: f4i rattle ?

well the kid before me has had it since new and said its done it since like 2000 miles. it was a minty till i just bought it and started it up and heard it. sounds like its coming from front of the motor top part and u cant hear till like 2 grand kinda sounds like a bolt rattling inside or something and is kinda loud. they wanna charge me like 300 just to dig into the motor when they dont even know wtf it is. i took it in to have the cam chain adjusted or tightened but who knows

i asked them how long it took them to work on and do what they did and they said they have like 40 minutes in labor so far. dont u have to take the top part of the motor off to adjust and couldnt they see enough then ? i hate worthless people

i was just reading on another site and some guys were saying all 01 and 02 f4is do this and its the cam chain tensioner is bad like the other guy in here said. so is it bad if i dont put a new one in and the only way around it is if u buy an aftermarket tensioner ?

Re: f4i rattle ?

like i said it is bad. and you can either buy a stock oem replacement which is $60 which you remove (2) 5mm allen bolts, pull out old cct (cam chain tensioner) and drop new one in with new gasket as well and install ur 2 bolts done deal, forget about it which is what i did or you can buy an aftermarket ape manual cct $55 and do the same as above but then you have to deal with the headache of adjusting it right or you could screw up your motor so now you have your 2 choices............

you should stay away from those sites, sounds like a bunch of idiots that would be working at the same place that adjusted your cam chain

keep in mind though, every 3,000-6,000 you'll have to spend another $60 and go through the install process again

or every 3,000-6,000 you can just adjust the adjustable one

mine made the same exact sound, I bought an ape cct and still made the sound, so I thought mabey I didnt install it right, so I bought a brand new stock one, still makes the god damn sound, so I just bought an mp3 player instead so I would have to hear it. Im pretty sure its the valves outta adjustment but **** it,ride it till it blows
