636 gas overflow problem

My new 636 seems to **** gas all out of the overflow when I fill it too high. Started doing circles last night and my **** slid right out so much gas was pouring out

There is no actual gas getting above the gas cap seal, so does this mean my overflow tube is cracked inside the tank? The tanks isn't dented, so I have no idea how that would have happened. Would it be bad to just epoxy shut the end of the overflow tube?

Edit: Also, when I drop this bike and try to start it back up, it acts like a flooded out carbed bike. It just cranks and cranks and won't quite start, I have to leave it sitting for a minute then it'll start right back up. What the hell?

Re: 636 gas overflow problem

I just got a 636 as well. Mine pisses gas out the overflow too, if I fill it to the top. My tank IS dented though.

AND it won't start after I drop it. Cranks and cranks for a bit till it starts. Same problem I guess.

Mine has a **** load of miles on it, so I just assumed it needed maintenance. Mine doesn't idle for **** also. TPS issue or somethin, I dunno.

Re: 636 gas overflow problem

don't block off the over flow tube.... are you sure the gas isn't getting in the overflow area cause the stock cap is vented to that area and i don't see how else the gas is getting out because it is highly unlikely the tube is broke if the tank has never been dented

I lifted up the cap, there was no sign of gas residue at all. It even happens when I don't have as much gas, just smaller amounts of gas leaking. My 636 constantly smells like gas.

ok easy way to tell is put a paper towel in there and do a couple wheelies and stoppies , if there is gas on the towel you will know...

and is your tip over switch still hooked up cause if you crash and the bike turns off because of the tip over switch that may be why it starts hard

Re: 636 gas overflow problem

I don't have any wiring up front. Every harness is disconnected from the main one.

Yea. 2 of them are blocked off, I'm assuming the previous owner has bypassed whatever emissions stuff existed

Re: 636 gas overflow problem

Ive only seen this problem when the drain tube is broken inside the tank....

And as for starting after a crash, before I dissabled my tip over sensor I had to turn the ignition off and back on to reset it....After dissableing it, it starts right away after dropping it...

Thats not possible, 636's only have 1 harness from the ECU all the way to the guages, there is no sub harness like with some other bikes..

I'm sorry, this is the only 636 I've dealt with, and the wiring is a bit haggard due to the previous owner.

There was a connector on the main harness that ran to the left side controls that I disconnected, and then there was some mini-harness that he had hacked up that ran to 2 other connectors on main harness. I think one of the connectors (little 2 pin one) was for the clutch and I'm not sure what the other one was. I disconnected both of them

Where is the tipover located? I didn't see anything that looked it might contain the sensor when briefly looking at the wiring.

No worries man just giving you some info, cause I know your a Honda guy...So your probably used to seeing a serperate harness that goes from the main harness to the headlights and guages....

I plugged the drain hole under the cap on my first tank, no problems other then it filling with water and not draining on its own when it rains....
