F4i K&N

Just found one new in the box lurking around my garage....... I'm not sure if my bike has one in it or not... I guess I'll find out.....

am I going to run into any issues if I install this with no power commander? is the bike gonna run better? worse?

Re: F4i K&N

Should run the same if not a little bit better. Not sure if you'll even notice a difference. As far as the power commander you don't even need one for something as simple as an air intake. This is only because they are replaced so frequently and the air filter doesn't do anything directly to the engine. With my experience your bike might run a little bit lean but again, barely noticable and won't hurt the bike at all.

If I were you I'd wait for somebody to second this before you trust me, I really don't know the ins and outs of F4i's so there might be something small that I'm missing. Good luck bud!

Re: F4i K&N

Would not recommend it for stunting. Adding a K&N de-restricts air-flow, which results in top end HP and a low end torque loss. You want more low end torque for stunt riding. Stick with stock.

Block off one of the intake ports to the airbox if you do install it. Basically males it the same as stock, but you can clean and reuse the filter.

But you also have to look at how much it really affects the horsepower and the torque. The horsepower, well it really doesn't matter for stunting like you said, but it will add at most around 2-3 hp at mid to high rpm. The torque curve with a K&N air filter will not even be noticable in low rpm. You will notice an improvment in higher rpm with both horsepower and torque by only a few horse and maybe a few ft-lb's of torque at a higher rpm. Your bike however will last a little bit longer with an after market air filter, again probably something you wont even notice if you end up keeping the bike that long. I'd say if you have it... use it.:YEAH

Lets not forget horsepower for po-pow-power wheelies

Re: F4i K&N

Let me know if you use the K&N air filter, I need a new filter for my bike and I'm thinking of getting one for my bike. I've used them on most of my cars and I've liked them, they last forever. Tell me if you like it or not on your bike.
