Cracked frame repair/reinforcement

Its the frame off of an 04 R6,

my question is what would be the best way to repair or reinforce the frame now that its cracked.

i was told by a welder friend of mine that he could drill small holes all the way through at the tip of the crack, then tig it all back together, and it should hold up fine. kind of like how they repair windows?

does anyone think this will either work or not, they are pretty close together to be drilling 3 holes in it?

second part - what would be the best way to reinforce the frame so it doesnt get worse or happen again? just weld like 1/4" aluminum plating to it?
i know i've seen somewhere that someone had a frame surrounded with steel diamond plating? is that too much work than its worth, or is that a good option?
