954 Forks Problem! HELP!
954 Forks Problem! HELP!
Last Sunday we were having a show, forks felt weird.
We kept rolling high stoppies and ****, until they just broke down.
it's the FIFTH time we change oil forks seals, but this time it's worse.
Bike just goes anywhere but straight, can't do a proper stoppie,
Is there any known 954 forks issue i'm not aware of?
Anyone had to make any mods to them???
THANKS FOR HELP IN ADVANCE

Re: 954 Forks Problem! HELP!
take your forks to a race oriented shop.
on a buddy of mine's forks they found small pits all over the inner fork tubes from sand and rocks hitting the tube.....made his seals blow out FAST and pushed neerly all of the fluid out in less than a month with NO STOPPIES
Race shops are alot more qualified than stealerships to properly work on your forks and figure out the real issues on whats making em mess up on ya

eazenutz33 : Shut your mouth about **** you have no clue about it
theres these things called bushing.. u can change them your self, you are suppose to change them when u change seals to... check out the microfisch on bikebandit.com and look at the fork internals and match the part numbers to the bushing... race shops build race forks.. which u will be paying 600$ for them to touch your forks... if u can change fork seals you can replace the bushing.. its easy and

Re: 954 Forks Problem! HELP!
Thanks guys. the issue about scratches and bumps from gravel hitting fork tube is non-existent.. those " ******* fork seals" started DROOLING LIKE A ******* CAMEL from day #1..

Both told me the exact same thing on why your forks would instantly leak after installing new seals.
Here's what they said:
if the forks are leaking after new seals are installed its most likely due to fork leg damage or damage to the seals on install.
Sometimes the damage isn't overly apparent, I had a bad fork leg that was very slightly bent on a 1000RR front end, instead of being perfectly round, it was slightly oval, it also had REALLY SMALL pits in it from sand getting past the dust seal into the oil seal. I had a slow, constant, leak.....not an oozing leak like you have. But I had to get INCHES away to see the grooves and pits the sand made when they were showing it to me at the shop. I bought a single left fork from D2Cycles, a local small salvage yard that buys bikes for race parts. He had all the guages and tools there to tell me what was straight and smooth. Swapped it out and it wasn't a problem anymore.
Not saying that is EXACTLY what your problem is, but you might give it a shot. If you have a guage for checking to see if wheels or rotors are out of round you can use it very similar to that to see if its got a minor bend o make it out of round.
Hope my opinion wasn't a complete waste.
Re: 954 Forks Problem! HELP!
OEM honda parts always seemed as good or better than most of the aftermarket products. Wouldn't think they would cause an issue. I've got OEM seal in the 954 front end on my F4i now and they've been going strong for a long time. I did put seal svers on the forks to help keep dust, dirt, and sand out of the seals since they use so much sand here in the winter.
Re: 954 Forks Problem! HELP!
not starting ****.....but talked to the local race shop and to another friend who's been working on motorcycles since he was 12.

there's really few schools about being a mechanic,
99% of them just come out working for someone else's shop since 14yo,
get their asses abused and underpaid, and when they've got some skills they open their own shop...
They may even be unable to read or write, but sure know how to tigthen a screw
Re: 954 Forks Problem! HELP!
i had the same **** with my 600rr and my outer fork casing ended up being the problem. the outer casing barely brushed a pole and it was enough the slightly oval the part where the seal sits. check it out next time the forks are apart, i used a die grinder to round it out again and havent had a problem since
