Learning 12's

IVE BEEN TRYING FOR A MONTH NOW. I OWN EVERY VIDEO OUT THERE, I GO TO ALL THE SHOWS AND COMPS, I TALK T ALL THE GUYS DOING THEM CHECK ON THIS SITE AND STILL DON'T HAVE IT FIGURED OUT. I JUST BOUGHT A 929 IN MARCH SO IT TOOK SOME GETTING USED TO. A COUPLE OF TIMES I SCRAPED THE REAR FENDER :PROBABLY 11:56: SO I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BEST TO GET A BAR FROM FREESTYLE. I PUT IT ON.THEN I DROPPED ONE IN THE FRONT AND WENT UP THREE IN THE BACK. RUNNING 18PSI. I SCRAPED IT THREE OF FOUR TIMES OUT BACK OF MY WORK. THEN I SCRAPED AND LANDED HARD TO THE RIGHT. BENT A FRAME SLIDER ETC. ONE DAY I CRASHED REALLY HARD BROKE OFF THE EXTENDED FRAME SLIDERS I HAD MADE , WASTED MY CASE, GENERATOR, FLYWHEEL, BAR, MASTERCYLINDER, FRT END, THROTTLE CABLES MY LEG, MY EGO, ETC... WHAT I THINK HAPPENED WAS ONE,, I AM STILL GOING TOO FAST AND TWO. IT HIT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BAR FIRST AND THEN SENT ME FOR A RIDE.
MY QUESTIONS ARE THESE
1. OBVIOUSLY IT IS THE POPULAR CONSENCOUS TO TAKE THE BAR OFF?
2. I WENT UP TO A 50 TOOTH REAR, AND AM STILL GOING TO FAST. HOW DO I SLOW THEM DOWN?
3.IS ANYONE IN EASTERN PA DOIN THEM CONSISTANTLY THAT WOULD LIKE TO GO RIDING ONE DAY TO HELP ME WORK ON THEM.ANY FEED BACK WOULD HELP/ THANKS

it's just about practice.
you're probably not going too fast or slow and it's not your gearing. Matt Weber from IBWS rolls super slow on a ZX6 with stock gears.
It's just hard to learn...
eventually you'll learn to compensate for the bike and hold it straight. u just gotta practice a lot.
I'd lose the bar but that's just me...

practice

i was out for about three hours today practicing. i took the bar off first. i'm getting them slower and high as all hell but it still doesn't seem slow enough. i watched everyone at stunt wars and skins adn scrapes they were barley moving. **** why can't i get that. i wasn't running low tire pressure today and it actually felt more controlled whats up with that, everyone says twenty pds or less.
i'm riding the brake and gassing at the same time, is that right, also i don't like it with y idle up high , can they still be done super slow or do i just need to get it up there and let the idle do the work? i got to learn this freakin trick

Alex, you just answered all my brake questions.. Tight. :P I think I would be doing really well if I could figure out how in the HELL to stop my bike from wobbling all over the place. I have tried running anywhere from 12 to 20 psi in the rear but I get the nastiest wobbles every single time I go past the BP. Every time. I am trying really hard to keep myself straight but its not working. The only thing I know I am doing wrong is I am still leaning a bit forward on my sitdowns. Currently, I clutch up 1st gear real quick from around 5 mph and hit the brake to stop me from going past the bp. Then I try to smooth it out with the brake while keeping the throttle steady. Once its smooth, I am going about 20 mph usually. Then I let off the brake a little to bring it back some more and then.. BAM! Wobbles from hell. Am I doing somthing wrong?

One other thing, my bike has almost 20k on it and 80% of those miles are stunting miles. My rear shock is very spongy. Could that be the cause of any of my problems?

I posted this in another thread but it might help you:

Heres how I do it........(geared -3/+3 on a gsxr 1000). in order to do it smooth, you almost HAVE TO have an idle adjustment. I crank mine up to 1,700 RPM for coasts, cliffhangers and apehangers as well as just plain scrapin'. If I want to go REAL slow, I crank it to 4,000 RPM.
On 2 wheels, go as slow as you can without putting your feet on the ground and then pop the clutch with your foot already on the brake. THe key is getting the front end all the way up to the balance point before it gains any speed. Then as it gets up there I let off the gas (because the 4,000 rpm idle does the work) as I ease in on the brake to keep me from going back too far.....after that its all brake control.
I have just recently gotten no-throttle hands (sittin down) on lock. I have been trying for months to do them sitting but didnt figure it out till a week ago. Crank the idle to 4,500-5,000 RPM. Pop the clutch just like you do the slow wheelie. THe only difference with this one is you MUST slide back in the seat so your *** is up against the rear seat. THats why I couldn't do them before (I was all the way up against the tank). THats it, throw a hand off! I have done a few no handers as well but they arent on lock yet.
Hope this helps, I'm bored at work so I felt like typing! Lata, Mellen

i'm practicing my 12's on a 929 right now also. i had cbo from dm extreme help me out. He told me that a 929 is the hardest to learn a 12, but really awsome to 12 if you know how. He was rocking them on mine and he said the way the bike is, it's real hard to learn on them.

if you haev already scraped the bar nad landed you are doing good. mellon said it right.

you are definately going to have crashes, i also noticed when you have crashes it's because you try to ride it out.

here's what i do and i'm learning:
sit all the way forward and grip the tank really really hard with your legs, they told me this helps teh best, and i noticed if i grip hard it doesn't get side to side wobbly.
then, im' rolling as slow as possible, barely moving, foot on rear brake clutch it up as fast and hard as you can to get it up to 12 with only the clutch then just use the brake to control, if it comes up funny just let off hte throttle and set it down and start over, don't try to ride it out if it's not perfect.

it takes a while getting used to using the brake, i got pissed cause i didn't learn it in a day and they told me it'll take a few weeks. I'm getting better, but i've crashed hard as hell (you'll see the video this coming week) a couple times. i'd say buy an engine cage. I have one on my 929 and it's awsome. After you see my wreck and see the engine cage, you'll want one. it barely touched the bike and i crashed hard from 12.

hope that helps from another learners point of view. if you can scrape already, just keep practicing man, you're further than me.

this trick is expensive

i've spent so much freaking $ on my bike, wich i bought two months ago and was perfect.my god i'm just trashin m bike. i do have a cage on my bike. i was going to get one from freestyle but tim must of been too busy to return my calls so i had a buddie make me one. it came out good. i haven't use it yet, thank god. i'm getting the wheelies down better, really slowing them down. yesterday i was letting a little air out of my tire and burnt the **** out of my hand on my rear rotor through a pair of gloves. i'm thinking of checkin my rear pads and rotor, i didn't ever think about how hot it gets.
as far a scraping i haven't gotten it with the bar off. all my buddies say i'm so close and that if i had the bar on it wouldv'e hit. i just feel like i'm still going to fast 20 mph around there. i've got to learn this trick by june 7th. nothing like a deadline to get you crashing
