yes u can have it on a switch.

ur setup would then have to be

bulbs TO switch TO harness

1 of both those 2 are grounds.

meaning u have 2 ground wires which you DIRECTLY connect to the ground wire on the harness (no switch in the middle)...

the other 2 wires, connect em to each other and then to the switch, from the switch, run another wire into ur low or high beam wire

...don't know wats wat on a 954....i can help u out if the harness is like a f4i, but i doubt that it is.

just start connecting **** together to see wat works. don't be afraid to blow a couple fuses.

EDIT:

wait, do u have ur left hand controls?

okay perfect, so u don't need a toggle switch

just use ur headlight controls.

u have 2 choices:

1. temporarily (or permanently) ground the 2 ground wires, leave the controls on highbeam, and connect the other wire(s) to the harness wires...one by one...look for it to turn on as you go. when it does turn on, switch controls from highbeam to lowbeam, if the light turns on, you know that you've just found the highbeam wire

OR

2. if you have access to a 954 frontend (headlights)...look at it and its connector and follow the wires so u know wats wat.

p.s. do you have the tip-over bypass?
