best/cheapest cam chain tensioner gsxr6

im looking for a manual cam chain tensioner for an 05 gsxr 6. a loud tapping/ticking is heard left side of engine not noticeable above idle. from what ive read the auto tensioners are known for this anyone know where i should look for a manual tensioner? also how can you tell between valve noise chain noise? how hard is a tensioner to do? do you need to pull the head??

Re: best/cheapest cam chain tensioner gsxr6

try another forum like gixxer.com or something where you may have more luck with specific GSX-R techie questions....They helped me out recently trying to find oil pan schematics so I could know better why stuntex is not able to make oil pick ups for the 06's. Got the schematics, and I still don't get it, but that is besides the point. They should be able to help you as long as you start your thread in the proper spot.

And sidebar- my bike is a ticking sob, it has been since the first day I brought it home. If it is just a noise, I don't really care....good luck.

im actually looking at buying a bike from somone on this forum and it ticks loud as hell. im trying to figure if itll lead to catstrophic engine failure or not. how loud is "normal" for a 05 gsxr6? how loud is "normal" for a stunted 05 gsxr6.
i cant really hear it off idle but at idle it sounds like a tractor/ collapsed lifters/an old 5.0 mustang type of noise. not a knock but a pretty solid noise.

Re: best/cheapest cam chain tensioner gsxr6

I can't tell you from the 05 standpoint, but my 06 has ticked since birth. I broke mine in hard, bought it brand new to stunt, run a bit over on oil, and try to stay away from the rev-limit on long wheelies.

I don't know if it is going to blow up or not. I have seen it happen, and I have seen it not happen. I am talking about mine and your prospective bikes both!

The ticking part though is sort of normal from what I am experiencing. I know what you are saying though, I was like WTF when I first started mine at the dealership, but no problems so far.

It sounds like lifter noise from a car engine, or low on oil in a chevy truck almost..... it goes away when I rev it a bit too, but is prevelant when at idle. usually when I first start it up it is the loudest.

Hell, when you find out what it is, let me know. Cuz like I said, if it is just a noise, I don't really care.
