Pretty sure that's the clutch cover...... Stator cover is on the left....and theres only one, not a left and right side..... the one on the right is a clutch cover.

Learn by doing. Or just take it to a shop.

Re: replacing an R1 stator

Yes there is a gasket there you "should" replace, and if you don't want to drain the oil then just lean the bike over toward the right side, enough to move the oil away from the stator side. Does the bike start no problem, does it stay running once you get it going? Does the battery hold a charge? What year R1?

Re: replacing an R1 stator

The rectifier/regulator usually goes bad before the stator itself, check that before you spend money on a new staror for no reason...The Stator is about $400 and a Rect is only like $100......Rects go bad all the time, stator rarely fail

Re: replacing an R1 stator

Replacing A Stator On A R1 Is Not A Simple Task, I Would Take It To A Shop. It Is A Really Bad Design And You Will Not Be Able To Just Un-bolt It And Bolt Another One On. If You Owned A Honda Or Suzuki It Would Be A Simple Swap.
