Re: r1 running hot?

if you blow a head gasket you would be blowing white smoke out the exhaust lots of it, also your oil would look like one of your buddies nutted in it. my friend had the same problem on his 07 R1 he got an exhaust for his bike not to try to fix the problem but just cause he wanted it but it did run about 20* cooler, but the real problem turned out to be he had air in his cooling system.

Re: r1 running hot?

im not sure if its the same on a bike as it is on a car but whenever change a radiator, coolant line or am just doing coolant flush i use a machine to suck all the old coolant out and shoot new coolant in and usually no air is in the system afterward but when there is i let the car run with the radiator cap off(the air will escapre from there) till it reaches opperating temp and let it keep running for about 5 mins, as im letting it run im under the car with a rubber mallet tapping the bottom of the radiator so the air gets out of the system quicker. after the 5 minutes it should be good and if not i take repeat.

Re: r1 running hot?

just take it to a shop though and tell them the problem, and that you want them to flush and fill your cooling system and theyll do it for you with the machine, or have them look at it for ya. but if you fan is kicking on than at least your t-stat is working, now wether its kickin on to late i dont know but at least its kicking on.

Re: r1 running hot?

you yanked it out? as in you didnt put it back in? hmmmm put it back in, the t-stat is what controls your coolant flow takin it out will just make your problem worse.
