rear brake...REALLY stiff
rear brake...REALLY stiff
okay, so i was changing my rear tire for the FIRST time..
put it on the stand
took off caliper
took off axle
loosened chain
removed wheel
everything back on now except that my back brake will not work....i have to put SOOOO much pressure on it to work...its really stiff.....and i didn't take off the line so no air got in
but
in order to remove the caliper...i took off the 2 big bolts on each side....and according to the manual(that i just read...after this happened)...u only need to remove 1 of the bolts to remove the caliper.
soooo
wat do i do? ...i pretty much have no back brake now
p.s. my brake light still works but only when i apply front brakes...rear doesn't bring the brake light on.

Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
sounds like you either got your pads oily or they are hanging up on some thing...
p.s while you have it apart clean and lube your sliders so the caliper can work properly ,if it doesn't slide back and forth easily when the piston is pushed all the way in then this may be your problem also....

but wat are u talkin about? sliders?

btw, when the piston is off, not around the rotor....and i push the piston all the way in....the brake works great....and its normal(not stiff)...then when i put the caliper on the rotor....and i press the brake a few times to get the piston/pads to lye on the rotor....its still good....but once thy(piston/pads) get there...thats when it gets stiff
Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
Silicon grease won't help your problem, all the grease does is make it easier to get the pins out next time.
Imagine that the pistons slide in and out, one side of the piston is always in your brake caliper, the other touches the back of the pad. the pad then works against the disk. you need to clean up the visible part of the piston to make it work easier.
As for you brake light, how does it engage. my sv used to have a spring that moved with the lever, to switch the light on or off, maybe something like this has come off?
Sorry don't know honda's

regarding the brake....i'll open and clean like u said but i doubt that thats the problem....because from how stiff it goes ALL OF A SUDDEN...i'm pretty sure that i did something wrong.
Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
the caliper slides in and out so when you step on the brake the piston pushes the right side pad against your rotor and the other pad is pulled to the rotor buy the caliper sliding back as pressure is applied to the right pad so you need to make sure it slides freely .......
and yea i think your right i think you put it back together wrong....

i took it off and put it back on over 10 times tonight...i even compared all the caliper parts to my buddies r6 caliper(same) and everything was there.
i cleaned the outer(pad) part of the piston...
still the exact same
p.s. the reason the brake light isn't working is because it is SOO stiff that the brake lever won't go low enough for the light to come one.
Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
you have for sure fucked something up
check

Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
If you're still having trouble i suggest you take it to a competent friend, or even mechanic. without being able to see it/ride it we're all just guessing, hope you get it sorted

and i have ALL of that ****!
Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
did you push the piston in and then pump the brake while you had the caliper off to see if the caliper works properly while off the bike
Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff
...does that answer ur question?
Re: rear brake...REALLY stiff

but when assembled, welll, ya know
