My front brake is snapping, what to do?

Lately been carefull about doing any endos, when i pull in the front brake lightly it goes about half way and stops, i have to pull harder to go more but it snaps and my front end goes into a dive. Feels like it getting hung up on something. I have checked everything and cant figure out why. Anyone else know about this?

Take the brake lever off and put a dab of grease on the MC piston, and on the lever where the brake lever rubs on the MC piston.

Re: My front brake is snapping, what to do?

haha, this is far from a common problem and brake service is cheap. if that **** was happening to me, i'd take the whole system apart, pop the pistons out n everything and clean lube the **** outta everything.

also check how far down your pads are worn, if the pistons are having to come way out of the calipers that might have something to do with it, one of em might be sticking I dunno, but putting new pads on would push them further into the caliper and might make them work smoother.

Re: My front brake is snapping, what to do?

check to see if your rotors have grooves, check both sides of the rotors if they do than you need to get that taken care of as well as change your pads. also as someone before me said your caliper might be sticking either because there is debris binding it up or it might just be fucked. but take it to a shop and have it looked at if your not sure getting it fixed will be cheaper than payin for a new grill

Re: My front brake is snapping, what to do?

Its most likely in your master like many before were saying ...and grooves in the brake rotors has nothing to do with the symptoms you have.

Re: My front brake is snapping, what to do?

your nuts if you think having grooves in your rotors wont make your brakes lock up, if there grooved its cause the pad is either worn down, it wore the wrong way, something got in between the pad and rotor and damaged the rotor, but if there are grooves something is digging into them to make them grooved so they will sometimes lock up under hard braking. brakes work the same way on bikes as they do cars and i work on cars and have seen it happen plenty of times im not just talking out of my *** , when i give advice or my opinion its cause i have experienced it before or know what some possible problems might be.

Re: My front brake is snapping, what to do?

there are differances between cars and bikes ,like most newer bikes have floating rotors on the front

grooves will also make it take longer for your pads to seat correctly but will usually work fine once the pads are seated

Listen dude, the front brakes are 'snapping'...........Like I said before, worn rotors is not a cause of the brakes snapping (your brakes wear to your grooved rotor) like Old man rodger said. All brakes lock up when under hard braking so what are you trying to say???? As long as the pads are seated to the rotor a grooved one will perform nearly the same as a rotor that is in 'spec'. Now a warped rotor will give you problems.....

Yeah bikes have floating rotors and fixed calipers (pistons on both sides of the rotor) for the front brake.... Few production cars have fixed calipers. Sliding/floating calipers (like nearly all cars) are harder on your rotors and streetbikes have this style caliper on the back.
