F4i radiator fan not working
F4i radiator fan not working
The fan on my cbr has stopped working, do the clocks need to be plugged in for the fan to work? my bike keeps overheating and spitting out coolant, its only recently been doing it and I haven had clocks for a while? so not quite sure whats up with it, its not stuck as it moves freely.. any ideas?
I've checked the connector and its still plugged in and seems fine, no breaks in the wires or anything.
How do I go about wiring it to an on/off switch so I can turn it on manually?

Re: F4i radiator fan not working
if it has one wire goin to the temp sending unit i think you can just ground that one wire,if it has two then touch the two of them together...
Re: F4i radiator fan not working
see if it works that way ,if not check to see if you have power to the fan if you do you need a new fan if you don't then check the fuse if that is good and you are not getting power then check your relay...
Re: F4i radiator fan not working
Where is the temp sending unit?
Please tell me its not under the pipe that is below the connector, as that means taking the fairing off and I can't get the fairing off at the min as my FI cage has bent and sorta trapped the fairing on
I'll check the fuses first as that makes sense..
If I take the plug out, will there be power to that plug at all times, which I presume feeds the temp sender unit and when it hits X temp it then turns the fan on...? so if I take the plug out and check that it should have some power there? if no power then theres a prob?
You'd never believe I was an electrican
I just havent a clue when it comes to bike electrics!

the sending unit is screwed into your radiator on the left side bottom i believe on an f4i...
i cant answer your other questions till i know how many wires go to the sending unit

Re: F4i radiator fan not working
Okay I'll check it out tomorow, I've just checked a parts microfiche and the sending unit is below the pipe
so I'll have to try and get to it somehow if the fuses are fine... hopefully its just a fuse!

under what pipe ?
it is in the radiator when the water temp in the radiator reaches a certain temp it turns on the fan...
i don't think f4i's are differant there then they are here...

Re: F4i radiator fan not working
I mean, on left side of the radiator, you have the plug for the fan then below that is a pipe and the sender unit is under the pipe (all on left side of rad) just with the fairings on you cant get to the sender unit, but I can prob get to the wires.. i think
Re: F4i radiator fan not working
Right, I have 1 wire from the sending unit and I have power to the plug (about 0.19v roughly) fan isn't stuck, I tried grounding the sending unit lead but the fan still does not work.. am I going to need a new fan then??
If so, after I fit the new fan do I just need to ground that single sending unit wire and it'll have the fan on constantly whilst ignition is on?

Re: F4i radiator fan not working
yea if you ground it and the fan only comes on with the key then your set but if you ground it and the fan comes on with the key in the off position then you will need a toggle switch between the one wire and the ground
and there should be 12 volts at the fan with the one wire off the sending unit grounded........check that before you buy the new fan ,sorry i didn't get back to you sooner but i was busy

Re: F4i radiator fan not working
How can I see if there are 12v at the fan when wire is grounded? as I'd have to unplug the connector to get the reading... ?? I have just over 12v at the plug before the fan though so there is definetly power to the plug and theres continuity from fan cables so theres no break in wiring and there is power there, I'm bidding on a new fan off ebay so hopefully that'll sort it and I'll wire it to come on with the key... cheers roger.
Re: F4i radiator fan not working
Not to worry, I've got the fan working now and I've grounded the sender wire like you said and now it all works fine, fan comes on with the ignition... Nice one cheers roger.
