a friend of mine (ed1000) said that he has had a few problems with his chain and that he wanted to convert. i was going to fix a problem before it became one.

I assume both but obviously you'd feel it more at speed

Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...

you could may be get away with running the 520 front sprocket but i don't know how much life you would get out of a chain doing it that way

That new sprocket you got is only made for one chain pitch. I'ld find out which one it is(I would imagine 530, if it fits both), and stick with it, or you're gonna be buying a new chain/sprocket combo very shortly.

You SURE? Pitch does'nt change from 525->530, hence both chains fit perfectly on the sprocket. Width is the only difference between 525 and 530. My mechanic and I both called the chain manufacturer and verifyed this....

Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...

I would bet that if you run a 530 chain on a 525 sprocket, it will wear out quick as ****. If you think about it, any slop in your chain/sprocket set-up is going to wear down the components. If the sprocket teeth only contact a portion of the chain rollers instead of the entire surface of the roller, it's going to cause uneven wear. I am really suprised that a manufacturer would tell you that you can run either. I wouldn't.
