Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
why would you want to do that ? i have been running the stock size chain only more links then stock for two years and i only had to adjust it once so far
Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
a friend of mine (ed1000) said that he has had a few problems with his chain and that he wanted to convert. i was going to fix a problem before it became one.
Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
well i geuss it won't hurt but i would just keep my chain lubed and rock on with the stock size
that and if you have allready geared your bike you will have to buy all new sprockets

Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
You get more engine brake with a larger chain too
Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
I assume both but obviously you'd feel it more at speed
Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
i need to know this too. I bought a steel sprocket from geared steel products for my 636 and a 525/530 chain both fit on it but i cant find an aftermarket 525 or 530 front sprocket for an '03 636...????
Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
you could may be get away with running the 520 front sprocket but i don't know how much life you would get out of a chain doing it that way
Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
That new sprocket you got is only made for one chain pitch. I'ld find out which one it is(I would imagine 530, if it fits both), and stick with it, or you're gonna be buying a new chain/sprocket combo very shortly.

Re: 636 530 Chain Conversion Info ...
I would bet that if you run a 530 chain on a 525 sprocket, it will wear out quick as ****. If you think about it, any slop in your chain/sprocket set-up is going to wear down the components. If the sprocket teeth only contact a portion of the chain rollers instead of the entire surface of the roller, it's going to cause uneven wear. I am really suprised that a manufacturer would tell you that you can run either. I wouldn't.
