Inverted Forks(fork seals)

i have done searches on the subject and got a lot of info on it, but i was wonder if anyone has done this before on a 04 gixxer 6. does it require any specific tools other than a seal driver/fork oil/a little knowledge ?
i'm pretty sure one inverted fork is like the other but just wondering if there are any special tools for a gixxer fork(inverted)?

ohh yeah, if ya'll want to give me any tips- I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I know how to fo f4i and 954 forks and you need no tools exept a seal driver. Ask the guys from legion. They used to rider gixxers.. Or buy a manual. Best way cause it gives you a step by step process..

Re: Inverted Forks(fork seals)

i did this on mine, its pretty easy, i didnt even have a seal driver! and they are still fine no leaky. the hardest part is gettin the old seals out, i used a automotive seal puller but it marred up the bottom of the fork a little, if you not worried about couple marks u can use it

Re: Inverted Forks(fork seals)

you need 2 tools and 2 people to do it

one is a ring with 2 threaded rods in it opposite each other and the other tool is a u shaped shim...

i'll try and find some pics....

all correct except for the seal driver can be a allen head and PATIENCE, other than that jump on it:YEAH also a i think the best way to get the allen bolt at the bottom out is with a impact. i hope this helps

Re: Inverted Forks(fork seals)

cut a 1 1/2 inch pvc right angle in half and file it till it fits nicelyarround the fork tube, $2 fork seal driver, doesn't mar/score the tubes or gouge fork seals... alsoa race tech forkspring compressor might be needed.

i had to use one on 05 zx6r forks to tighten the fork caponto the damper rod

losen everything to drop forks
take out bottom alen bolt(out of bottom of fork)

put fork tube back in and loosen the big top bolt(easyiest way i found)
take out dust shield/c-clip
take big flathead screwdriver and work out the fork seal/oil seal(evenly all the way around)((don't scuff/bend fork tube))

Re: Inverted Forks(fork seals)

on inverted forks, once you remove the cap from the damper rod and remove the fork seal retaining clip, you can just pull the seal out by pulling the bottom portion on the fork down (requires a little force a couple times) Then you just slide your new seals (without cutting them) on the lower tube and reassemble

Re: Inverted Forks(fork seals)

yeah the rod in the center,if u pump out the old oil, u have to fill up the lower tube and re-pumpit to bleed out all the air... till it starts to volcano out of the rod you are pumping. its the damper rod (middle of the spring) that u need to bleed and its best to bleed it completely till the oil comes out the top really nicely then wait a hour and re-bleed it cause the tiny air bubles will creat a air pocket...

just pop the fork cap out, unscrew the fork cap from the damper rod, make sure all your ajustments are ajusted all the way in, preload/damp etc, that tiny little flat head on top and the lower little flat head ajustment, then unscrew the fork cap from the damper rod, take the spring out and slowly pump the rod to bleed it.. assembly is tricky, put the spring back on and then the fork cap and tighten it up till the inner damper rod bottoms out.
