Slipping clutch.. still..

Hey myh 99zx6r's clutch is still slipping.. had this problem for the past three years. i have replaced the whole basket assembly in the past.. still same ****.. It will stick sometimes and come up nicly.. but other times its like it gets warm then no go..

I have heard of guys using sand paper on there steel plates to give them more grip.. im pretty much willing to try anything as i dont want to miss another year and progression cause of a shitty bike.

I was thinking of putting a sprocket on it too so its got more torque and i need less rpm to get it up.. maybe that will help?

Re: Slipping clutch.. still..

I dont remember hearing that but it sounds like it would make sence. maybe i should try lubing my cable or something.. i never really thought of that.

also what grit of sand paper should i use? like should i pollish it with a 400 ish.. or just give it some light scracts and keep it rough?

Re: Slipping clutch.. still..

not realy recomended ....but i would use those 3m cookies ....you know they look like scrubby pads but you put them on a die grinder...they will scuff the surfice but not realy damage it

Re: Slipping clutch.. still..

just scuff it ...those plates are pretty hard metal so you can hit em pretty good

Re: Slipping clutch.. still..

there might be a burr on the inside of the cable.....would say try to replace the cable before going at the expensive plates with a die grinder

Re: Slipping clutch.. still..

Well first of all, is the clutch fully engaging?
If not, is there a little slack in the clutch cable when the lever's not pulled in?
If there is no slack in the cable, then adjust the cable so there is.
If there is slack in the cable and the clutch still only barely engages, then the problem is probably that the clutch stack is too short (in other words, the plates are too thin). Simply add another steel plate in the middle of the stack to fix that problem.
All f4's (not "i") i've seen have that problem. Even with new stock plates, the clutch only barely engages at the very end of the clutch pull.

Re: Slipping clutch.. still..

so your saying put put a ton of slack in the cable? honestly that kinda makes sence.. its alomst like once the plates warm up the slack goes away or something.. ill try it where the clutch engages when you pull it all the way to the bars and see if that helps..

I do try and keep the spot that engages as high as possible.

No, i'm saying the cable adjustment may be the problem if there is NO slack in the cable
