Angry Blew out sixth gear... what now?

So im cruising along on PCH on my 93 900rr and i go to pin it when my sixth gear starts violently shaking and grinding. I can now ride in 1st through 5th with no problems but 6th kicks me out and shakes. Did i blow out sixth gear? What causes it to go out? ... and how do i fix it.......https://www.stuntlife.com/forums/ima...s/nixweiss.gif

Thanks
Bobby

I personally use 1-3 a lot, but that's at the spot.

Re: Blew out sixth gear... what now?

The only way to fix it is to tear apart the motor and replace the gear in the transmission, but there could be more damage there. You wouldn't know until it was taken apart for sure though.....

I dropped the oil and there wasn't any metal in it at all... that doesn't really make sense.

Re: Blew out sixth gear... what now?

you could have a bent shift fork which will cause it to not go into gear all the way, which it will then skip and pop out. but who knows i could be wrong.
