Help With Bondo and.or FiberGlassing. Modding 03-05 R6 Tail and Repairing Fairings
I'm looking for some good info/links about using/molding bondo and/or fiberglass to mod my 03-05 tail fairing. As many of you might know you can't really get your foot all the way on the rear pegs on a 03-05 rs because of the way the tail elbows out right over the pegs. so i'm going to cit it down and re-modle it basically. i need to get it back smooth and looking like something stock as much as possible. i'm basically going to cut those elbows down flat and make it curve(elbow out) further back behind the pegs then paint. i haven't used bondo b4 though so i need some good tips or links to some how too's with bondo and plastic. all the other work i'm doing will just be fixing cracks and what not. i'm good with my hands so i know i can sculpt and sand them out good but for that tail there will be a big gap to fill with bondo and i wanna do it right.
(These are all used CHEAP plastics of course all of the brand new good stuff is come-n off)

ok.. my specialty..
what you do is cut it how you'd like, then get fiberglass fiber sheets, and the resin mixture.. tape cardboard or metal or plastic or whatever over the front of the area, so it is semi the shape you want.. then flip it over, and add a fiberglass sheet n resin from the back, apply a few layers, and let it fully harden.. then remove the cardboard/metal/plastic from the front, and you'll see the fiberglass has hardened and should be pretty smooth.. now from the outside, smooth thin layers of bondo over.. remember, you dont' want any low spots of pits, cuz then it's gonna look shity.. then just sand the bondo once it's dried.. do your desired shape n smoothness.. figure out grits on your own

Fibreglass will stick like **** to the factory plastics! get a fibreglass rear end and start with that. standard plastics are best welded with heat(soldering iron will work) use spare fairing plastic as a filler where needed. what the other dude said about glassing and binda can only be used for very fine **** it cracks when the fairings flex if to thick

wow... well what if i took the parts(the elbows) that i cout off, turned them inside out and put them back in so they would dip in, instead of out. The only question there is, do they sell like a plastic solder. like a easily melted plastic powder or sumthin. i think home depot has sumthin like that hopefully. other then that i don't have any other MATCHING plastic to fill in what i cut off to make it flat. or maybe the fiberglass is the way to go with the bondo over it just very light strips of fiberglass.
