Need help for first paintjob

I'm getting ready to paint my bike and need some help on how to get started. First, what kind of compressor should I look at getting? I don't need anything super fancy, just good enough to get a nice quality paintjob done. Also what kind of spray gun should I use. I also would like to know how I should go about sanding? Should i use paint thinner on everything that i what to paint and then sand it,followed by primer, sanding, paint, sanding, clear coat? I'm completely new to painting so any help would be appreciated. I've searched for this topic but everybody says to do it a different way.

Thanks

Re: Need help for first paintjob

just use a compressor thats big enough that it wont constantly be running when your sprayin, put a filter on it, just get a cheap hvlp it will work good enough,

Prep the plastics good and go to town with light coats. light coat --> light sand light coat light sand.

Re: Need help for first paintjob

here ya go. sand the plastics with like 320 grit then primer them with a urathain prime sand the primer with 400 grit now you ready to spray. i have painted withh the $500 guns and the $100 guns i useuly only see a diff if im doing candys. im asuming you doing a base coat so go to lowes and get one of there $100 hvlf guns. the compressure for motorcycle plastics should be aroun 2 hp at least 75 gal since motorcycle plastics are so small you wont run out of air during a pass. also get a oil and water remover, and air pressure guage at the gun so you can keep the gun at 40 psi at all times. base coat paint is really easy to paint but your first time you will probly be nervse as hell, dont be, ther are realy no flash times in volved just try to br smooth on the passes dont go to fast or to slow and keep you rist straight. `try on somthing thats junck first to get the hang of it
