Re: my oil....

Or use a synthetic with no friction additives that is intended for use with a wet clutch.

Re: my oil....

i run silkolene pro4 full synthetic 15w-40. and i've never had a problem. it costs $10.00 a litre and you'll need 4.5 for an f4i but it's worth it. i would also recommend using only the model's manufacturers oil filter.

Re: my oil....

This has been beat to death on alot of motorcycle forums...

OEM filter and castrol gtx 10-40.... no need for special oil if you change it often enough.

OEM oils (honda/yamalube) have nothing special besides the name on the label... hence the extra $$$$.

+1 that's what I use. you can change your oil much more often with regualar oil for the same price, and it's frequency that's important.

friction modifiers lower the friction and cause clutch slippage

Re: my oil....

I always buy my oil 2 cases at a time.......Bel-Ray semi synthetic 10w-40........6 liters for $25.99, plus some change for UPS/Fed-Ex

has worked real well for me since I put my new motor in about a year ago, with zero problems with the clutch or anything else, plus I always have enough oil laying around to do an oil change when I want to, not when the dealer is open, and its good oil thats normally kinda expensive at the dealer!

FYI - a specific type of oil (regular, synthetic blend, fully synthetic, or 100% synthetic based) isn't going to burn up your clutch - YOU ARE. Not changing your oil for periods of time, your oil is broken down and of course all the times we slip the clutch to wheelie - it causes friction in the clutch and motor.... Some lube and protect better and longer than others for high heat, rpm machines like our bikes require.... You can use cheaper oil but you will have to change it more often, or get a more expensive but longer lasting oil.... I consider myself lazy and will get the good stuff and not change it as often and end up paying the same in the long run.... See motorcycle oil testing on viscosity and wear on Amsoil.com on the homepage tword the bottom for the facts.

Re: my oil....

just an FYI... amsoil actually buys ALL their PAO's (synth base) from Mobil.

I used to be all about synthetic everything (motor oil, 2stroke mix, gear oil, grease), but the miniscule benefits you get from it are negated by the cost...

You will NEVER EVER notice ANY difference between a "full synth" and a partial or "semi synth".... OR EVEN good old dino oil.

Maybe... POSSIBLY, you might get a noticable benefit in an air cooled engine, cause they run hotter and cool down quicker... but in a liquid cooled.... waste of $$.

Cheap stuff... change when your supposed to... it's all you need.
