97 gixxer wierd problem PLEASE HELP

well heres my dilema i am planning on buying a 97 gixxer 600 on the weekend 27,000KM and looks good, the thing is the guy says it has a weird problem in that the bike will all of a sudden shut off when hes riding it. the guages still come on and work but the engine itself dies. hes replaced numerous things including a brand new wiring harness proffessioanly installed and built , new CDI, new fuel pet**** all new main jets rebuilt carbs yoshi pipe he says it runs awesome when it runs, except for this problem so again it randomely shuts off when hes on it and it wont start. once he leaves it for a hour or so it will fire right back up and run for 2 days sometimes, or 1 hour other times he also said it will miss and sputter like its running out of gas? do these years have a tip over sensor? could it be as simple as the kickstand switch faulty? something simple? ANY IDEAS PLEASE! i can get it cheap as hes frustrated and wants it gone. thanks alot in advance.

might be as simple as a gas tank vent issue, tell ya what ride it around tomorrow and post up exactly what happens when it cuts out on you, how the motor died, and what displays even for a second on the dash.

My Friend Had A 97 750 That Had The Same Problem, Dealers Couldnt Figure It Out And All It Was The Fuel Tank Was Rusted Real Bad Inside And The Float Bowls Were Full Of Rust And Clogging The Main Jets. Take Allen Keys With You And Take The Seat Off And Unbolt The Two Bolts Up By The Steering Neck And Pivot It Up And See If You Can See Any Rust, We Were Able To Push Right Threw The Metal, Good Luck

First things first never just replace parts until you identify what the problem is. Also there are three steps in diagnosing a problem when trying to fix your motorcyle. They break down into these three groups:mechanical, fuel and electrical.

My question is if you had a new wiring harness put on professionally by an "professional" why could they find out what the real problem is? the bike starts, no problem with the starter, the bike ingnites, no problem with the ignition, it couldn't be the kickstand cause it wouldn't allow you to get the bike started in the first place. Some where in your system it starting to overheat. You may want to check a service manaul for actual operating temp for that year and start from there, the bike is doing its' job also.......you know what I would check your cam sensors as well. Its hard for me to really diagnos this cause I haven't been in the field for long enough but I would start at how hot does it get when shutting off and check on information about your cam sensors as well. pm me cause i like a challenge.

yup..
intermittent problems are the best.

Id check all the wiring, look for pinched wires,

Theres some breeds of Fords that had ignition control modules that would heat up and cut out, and only restart when they cooled down, they had chronic problems with them.
