f4i chain and sprocket??

Yo, I just got an 04 f4i and I need to make a rear sprocket for it. I have read some posts on here about the size and alot talk about a 520 conversion. What is that all about? I wanna machine a 60 for the rear, but is the 520 chain bigger or smaller than stock, and why convert to it?

Do a search. This was covered, no lie, in the last 24 hours.

Re: f4i chain and sprocket??

520 is smaller, reduces reciprocating mass which reduces drivtrain loss...gives a couple more horse at the wheel, the chain stretches easier though, 530 is the way to go for stunting, don't know why people like to run the 520.

Re: f4i chain and sprocket??

yeah search .... although i will say search button doesn't always work good but chain size is a universal topic i would think you would know that

Re: f4i chain and sprocket??

520 reponds quicker which is better for engine brake stunts

Re: f4i chain and sprocket??

reduces reciprocating mass
did you mean rotating mass, because reciprocating means moving back and forth, like a reciprocating saw..

Re: f4i chain and sprocket??

almost forgot, 520 can be lighter.. more responsive. but it depends with how you ride because i no i wouldnt be able to feel the difference between a 525 and 520.

Re: f4i chain and sprocket??

520 make a very small diference. But it does make a difference..

A lot of people change because bikes come with too beefy of a chain, 530 is just too much for most 600's..

Now a liter bike, you stick with 530 and don't look back.. But on less powerfull bikes might as well go 520 and get the most out of it.

I run 520 on my fzr600, then again thats a slow peice..

I've seen 2 520s break on 600s ... bigger sprockets = more force, no need for a 520 for stunting

Wider sprockets also mean they wear slower.

bigger on rear wear slower, smaller on front tear your tranny up

edit: proly dont have to worry much about tranny, unless you ride a fzr600 though.. Friggin aluminum foil tranny

i think its the opposite. bigger sprocket means more leverage to turn the wheel, which means less tension on the chain. Thats one reason to go real big in the back instead of dropping teeth inthe front.

But we know that sprocket wear is caused solely by stretched chains, so the width shouldnt make a difference in that.

Exactly all of the torque amplification is done from the edge of the sprocket. The cush drive takes a beating though. Last time I checked Torque still equalled Force times distance. Drop 4 teeth on a gixxer like my boy did though and you will be replacing that sprocket pretty uickly.

Sprockets are made of such weaker metals that it doesnt matter. Remember the "geared steel" thread?

Post a link. Some aluminum alloys are quite strong.
