Re: homemade 636 fairing stay

I said I wanted to test this and since weve finally had a few days of + temps up here and I think I did a good job of crash testing it. Winter is way too long and Ive been goin ***** out the few days Ive been back at stunting....So I was able to crash in 2 ways Ive always said Id never wanted to experience, a high chair and an endo loop.... Please note the 2 cracks that are ziptied where there when I installed the upper, I bought it like that and havent fixed anything from the crashes yet...

So the highchair.......Well I had the idle up from slow **** and did a high chair didnt mean to but I ended up on the bar and couldnt get it off with the HB. So I just slowed it down and balied as it got squirly, the upper did not even touch the ground! Even though the bike fell hard on 1 side and then bounced to the other noting up front broke at all. I think I owe most of that to MXD:YEAH but I know with my 905 and OEM guage stay setup something would have broken just from the force of impact.

Endo loop! ha these damn FI clipons make you feel like your a pro at endos, actually I **** but these instanly made me better and Im rolling higher and slower than Ive ever been. So I had one going perfect I was real high in the balance and it was rolling so slow and didnt feel like it was gonna stop. I think I gave it a little pump too much and I went over, jumped off and the 12 bar just skimmed my back....The bike landed upside down and stayed like that resting perfectly on the 12 bar and my stay..... Im so happy the stay held up because nothing up front was even touched, Scotts damper and all controls were not even touched, if the stay gave out those would be rashed hard.....

My upper broke in a few places but all the pieces are still there, the 2 bottom bolts that mount the stay to the frame sheerd off. 3 headlight to upper tabs broke and the stay got a little tweaked, but the 2 headlight to stay tabs are intact and the headlight is still solidly mounted. So looks like all I need is 2 new nuts and bolts a bunch of zipties and Im going to bend back the stay as best as possible....IMO its a sucess

Im going to try and make 20 of them I have the templates that Im going to take to a laser cutter and see how many will fit on a sheet of alumiunm. If you want one drop me a PM and I'll put you on a list, if and when their done I'll contact you and if your still interested its first PM first serve....

Im not a millionaire either but I can do basic math

905 stay=$250 + you need an OEM guage stay $80 after 1 crash you'll then need a new guage stay $80 + a new headlight $300 and a new upper
$300. Ive spent over $1500 on headlights, uppers, and guage stays with the 905 and every drop something breaks again and again, the POS broke things just trying to install it.

Ive now dropped my bike pretty hard over 5 times and I looped an endo and Im still using the same upper, headlight, and my stay.......I wish I was able to buy this a long time ago, Id have an extra $1500 right now to spend..

Still workin the bugs out with production and I have a question for people intereseted in this stay......I cut my uppers real short as you can see in the pics but Im guessing most of you would want the full length support? If not how far up would you prefer to have the support go? And whould you like a grab bar or not?

Y R U EXPLAINING YOURSELF TO THESE GUY??? IF THEY REALLY NEED IT AFTER THEY BREAK ALL THE SH** WITH THE 905 THEN THEY WILL WANT TO BUY ONE FOR WHATEVER PRICE YOU SELLN IT FOR. Sounds to me like you try'n to do everyone a favor by getting some more made, and it gonna be a pain in the a** for you. YOu got your sh** if they wanna b**ch about the price then they can keep break'n their sh**. I swear all everyone does is B**tch on here. I just saw someone b**tch on another tread because they were giving away a free 06 GSXR at the STarboyz stunt comp. but someone was mad cause it was a GSXR. PPL are crazy for real

Re: homemade 636 fairing stay

Im just saying that people keep charging more and more for stunt stuff. People say "oh, you drop your bike one time and thats over $300 right there. Well, if you are a stunter, chances are you dont have nice plastic on your bike anyway, so thats more like $40. Im not trying to knock you, Im just saying that $300 is real expensive. Thats more than a damn cage that protects fairings, motor, everything.

I would like one of your stays but I cant pay $300.

Re: homemade 636 fairing stay

That 100$ was just materials and welding i did watch him work on it for a good 6-7 hours of just prep work and fitment. Do the math i have seen it crash and save the bike in person. So 300$ is a good deal for something that actually works and does the job right or you could just go ahead and buy the 905 garbage, choice is all up to you!

I agree 100% This stay is sick. It mounts beautifully, the fit and finish is fantastic and the strength is amazing. I have it on my 636 and I couldn’t be more satisfied.

+1

Those welds look VERY nice... I don't mind paying for something that's quality work.

Re: homemade 636 fairing stay

Thanks guys but dont look at those pics that is my original prototype, back then I made everything by hand and it was welded on the bike. Since then Ive changed the design and contracted out the cutting out of the parts, all my parts are now cut out on a CNC water jet....I also dont use any jigs, the way I design them now the parts fit together like a puzzle so their always the same.

Same TIG welder thou and I will never use anyone else! A ture test of an aluminum welders skill is on cast aluminum engine parts like engine cases and case covers...A good welder will weld those no problem or questions asked a bad one will melt them into and ugly mess....
