Problem with wheelies, input needed
This is ridiculous, I can't seem to get a wheelie going.. it's a mix of not dropping the bike and lack of experience w/ stunting. I've been pretty much stuck on canyon/track riding, which without bragging I'm pretty good at, low enough to hit my piece of crap stock rearsets.
Anyways, I'm definitely afraid of dropping the bike, I don't mind me falling, it's the bike I'm worried about.. I think it sketches me out everytime I give it a try. Also, it seems I have a problem with pulling my throttle hand in when the front tires leaves the ground, so obviously my wheel isn't straight for when I have to put it back down while practicing. Anyone have any advice? I've gotten it up pretty high before, and it seems I've lost that and I was either just balsy at the time or I just can't do it anymore. Sitdowns are hard keeping on the bike, and standups are really sketchy, I don't like how it feels.. I think I'll eat ****, I get all crooked when I try them.
It feels pathetic to be having this much trouble learning to wheelie, especially when I feel I'm a pretty good rider in general, and definitely on the track.. not being able to pull up the front end is just embarassing.
Any help would be great, sorry for the long post.

I have the same problem, I pull the wheel to the right because of getting on the throttle. And sometimes it gets really shaky when I set it down.

I think everyone feels that. Im still getting used to staggerd also. Its very choppy on the throttle to me as well, since im learning in first.
Its like, when it does come up, you try to keep it up and your choppin on the throttle, I just cant seem to keep it steady at one height.
Then like you said, those landings are so strange. Oh well, they say Practice Practice Practice....Hopefully it will pay off.

You need to laugh when your bike falls. I'm used to busting my case open all the time and all the oil dumping out. I don't even bother getting pissed anymore.
But I guarantee next time I'll be at least 10 times better at saving the bike from falling again...I've seriously gone from dumping my **** on a weekly basis to monthly and now quarterly...It's just a part of the learning process...

Everyone's threshold of fear is different...I think some people just got more ***** than others...when your stunting alone your head wants to fu(k with you---i find it helps when i got friends around doing challenging tricks to watch and see and prove that "it's not as bad as my head is making it seem" Videos help a LOT too--especially right before you ride. Just my personal .02.
Good luck anyways--and OBVIOUSLY if you don't have a cage get one now!

Sit as far forward as you can and get a death grip on the tank with your knees. Just relax your arms and be as smooth on the gas as you can. You'll feel a lot more comfortable with practice.

a couple of things that helped me were.
1. ride someones quad get used to using the clutch to bring it up. put your foot in the rear grab bar. grass is soft and doesn't hurt.
2. ride with friends that are much better than you they will give you tips or help if there any kind of friend.
3. if you don't wanna crash "get off the bike" riding a sport bike is dangerous one way or another, your gonna fall sooner or later. riding or stunting.
4. practice as much as you can. i'm by no means a great stunt rider, i've just practiced to become better. i really didn't even know how to wheelie well before, i thought i knew where bp was but i was way off.
5. find a large parkin lot to suit your needs, safest place to go.
another thing is i hear you guys talkin about the crossed up front wheel, it'll happen just try to relax a bit, concentrate on keeping it steady, don't worry about going slow yet. shoot i still come down somtimes all crossed up but now it's slow enough that i don't get the tank slapper.
cover the back brake and staggers are the way to go.

this will sum it up real fast
Stand up one foot on the rear left peg dump the clutch lean back and gas it but cover the rear break its easy like sunday morning

Just practice and forget about your bike.......I remember when I crashed my MINT 954 and turned it into a piece....I fix what I had to and then 4 months later did the same thing......Hopefully I will have it back together this weekend.....

trust me when you first starting out, the looping feeling is about 2 feet before balance point. yo your in cali theres gotta be people out there to ride with, and give you a hand.

When I was learing to get the front end up it did feel way higher than the front really was....BUT the thing was that it always "felt" really high until one day I must have realy hit BP Because all of a sudden my stomach jumped and I felt like the bike was just floating...I immediatly closed the throttle and came back down....
You'll defintially feel the BP, just hope you dont feel it on your way through it like I did, twice....
(your bound to crash sometime, so if you want your bike to stay mint forget about learning)

Are there any good stunters here in surrounding Atlanta, Georgia area. I need someone to practice with and watch me, etc. I go out all alone and practice and it's kinda hard trying to know when you have made a step forward.

Don't worry about getting it super high at first... learn staggered and consistent...Try hitting a few feet up and bringing it to that same place all the time. Soon you'll get used to it safely and you'll want to go a bit higher... listen to your engine, it'll tell you when you're at BP... And if you're learing slowly, you'll be calm enough to hear it.. instead of

Practice a lot, and practice using the rear brake to bring you down instead of chopping the throttle. Then, when you need it it'll be there.
