GP style shift pattern
GP style shift pattern
Hey guys i come from a racing backround and am just geting into stunting. On the track i ride with a GP style shift pattern, meaning instead of 1 down 5 up its backwards 1 up 5 down, making it easier and quicker to find that gear. Doyou think it would be benificial to use a set up like that for stunting????? Let me know thanks
Re: GP style shift pattern
It really doesnt matter much, where are you in miami? pm me if you want to practice. Im up in school in gainesville most of the time but im down there at least a couple of weekends every month
Re: GP style shift pattern
Most people usually stick to one gear once they`re on one, so shift pattern doesn`t really matter. That being said, I had GP on my GSXR and I still go to push down to up shift on my 900, and my down shifts are no where near as smooth with the normal pattern.
Re: GP style shift pattern
The only advantage to using GP style shifing is if you are riding long wheelies shifting gears on say the highway. Makes for much more easier and positive upshifts...
Re: GP style shift pattern
I like the GP pattern on my bike for sit down no handers. You can hook your toes under the shifter instead of the foot under the peg technique, and you don't have to worry about accidentally upshifting or hitting neutral. Other than that, it doesn't help with much else.
Re: GP style shift pattern
Thanks for the comments I think I will order the kit......long highway wheelies and the bomb less movement to shift is probly more effecient and smoother. The more the think about it the more I wish ups didn't take a week..... Guess ill just have to burn a few down. Where's the cronic

You can`t turn the 900s linkage without some modifications, it rubs on the frame. Yamaha requires a kit too... not everyone is as smart as Suzuki...
Re: GP style shift pattern
i switched mine... love it. Makes shifting real easy during wheelies. Just pull in the clutch, step forward and tap the shifter, and step back to the rear peg. Also for sit down NH's, i hook my left foot under the peg and my big toe is up against the shifter. If i didn't have gp shifting, i would probably inadvertantly shift it into neutral.
