Shipping a gas tank?

Tryin to see if anyone here has ever had to ship a gas tank via UPS, FedEX, or USPS. Trying to get an idea of what type of prep needs done. I can't imagine they would ship a box that smells like gasoline and I wouldn't want to rinse it out with water. The last thing a tank needs is rust on the inside.

Thanks.

Re: Shipping a gas tank?

Drain it real good tape up the lid and fuel pump. I shipped 2 through UPS and neither smelled of gas. They sat for over a year before I shipped htem. I Prolyl woulda been in deep **** if they did smell it tho.

Call and ask UPS they'll prolly put one those Flammable stickers on it and make it cost more. Ask a junk yard too how they do it.

wrap the sucke in plastic wrap, that might help keep a lot of the scent in, and then put a lot of packing stuff around it and maybe even spray it with cologne or something. IDK, ask a shop how they'd do it.

remove the pump and cap and leave it outside to sun. It will vapor most off. then tape it and send it.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll jump on it. Haven't sold it yet but I'd like to prep it so the buyer won't have to wait long.

yeah ship fedex, and drain the gas and leave it in the sun for a day or two. should be good to go. If you are real worried about it, stuff some plastic wrap in both holes and tape it up. should be good to go.

Ha, a gallon of gas still in it. What an idiot to pay to ship that extra 8 pounds or so.
